| ok. A bit of an update. had a good few moults happening over the past weeks. One had a bad moult and two right legs arent moving. Something went wrong *think i posted about this before, somewhere..* Anyhoo, one is currently as we speak moulting! Only I disturbed him/her *rolls eyes* I thought it was a moult skin!!! I saw another 3I standing VERY close and took off the lid, they scarpered! I then saw it was a moulting scorpling. Worried was dead so did a little blow...he/she flinched. BUT this other scorpion is back and VERY close, too close for my comfort. Damn me not feeding them yesterday!!! I hope this one makes it out of the moult skin and doesnt get eaten by a sibling! Teeny and Tiny are still alive!!! will pop in some food again for them tonight. They are no where near moulting yet! they truely are the runts xxxxxxxx | |

| Fingers crossed for the little guy! Hopefully he's guarding. I had a runt of a B. jacksoni -- it had a bad molt and didn't make it. I hope your two little ones do alright. | |

| Im gonna go run and take a look.... Scorpion is nearly out of the moult and noone else near him/her. Earlier I did witness a shimmy and a shake and slide forward in the moulting process! very cool. Wish I had continued to sit there but...a boiling pot and all that! But the little one seems to be nearly done...unless this one also ends up having it hanging off a leg...or somehow comes out damaged? But I have high hopes! Thats the thing with runts, they usually arent meant to survive. Fingers crossed though and all that xxxxxxxx | |

| by the time I had left the computer to go start dinner, the scorpling had already come out and is now a 3I scorpion. I have just removed the moult and discovered mites *again* but they are white and moving, so im not worried I think there is only 2 left to moult *not including the runts* xxxxxxxx | |

| they have tails. they are missing their telson. They can poop which means they will survive, unless they die which will be natural and due to them being the "runts of the litter" but currently they are doing very well | |

| A friend of mine has a telsonless emp that lost it quite early on and is now a subadult, so it's possible to survive.
Don't think that this means anyone should go de-stinging their scorps, though. | |

| I guess the 'no stinger but still able to survive' theory only applies to scorpions who do not rely on their stinger to catch prey and since P.Imperators use their claws as a primary tool I guess being telson-less has no effects whatsoever on 'em. | |

| I wasn't advocating it; I was just saying that people shouldn't use the fact that they can survive such an injury as an excuse to inflict it.

| At the age they are, a scorpling without a telson would not survive any battle or be able to hunt and kill its prey since the chela would be too weak to crush any prey. At the moment my little ones have to sting. For the "telsonless two" we have to offer headless crickets and only one at that since they cant even manage a whole one between them. I think they are under developed to be honest and im trying not to hold hopes on them surviving. I rememeber seeing a scorpion who had had the "snip" and to be honest, I thought "whats the point" you have the animal to marval at its skill and all that it has been born with. To me its like de-clawing a cat. Cruel and defeats the object of owning the animal if you cant accept it as whole xxxxxxx | |

| So back to topic. teeny and tiny in their own little tank. Noticed a problem yesterday when I got back from staying with the "rents" One, in the "wax worm hide" is basically face down...tail looking dry. I thought "dead baby"...went to remove...got the tongs and CRISPY but still alive! Im guessing this is a moult happening BUT its going really really badly. Teeny cant moult face down into the substrate and from what ive seen...distorted body all bent back. Im worried its my fault since I didnt mist the tank wednesday...this could be a lack of humidity problem which has caused a dry out... but I know they are both very under developed so it could just be one of those. I will try to take out Teeny tonight but if pulls down into the substrate will wait until next night etc...as I really doubt he/she will make it xxxxxxxxx | |

| Just leave him be and hope for the best. That's the only advice I can offer -- the process of molting looks really weird (now that I've seen it) and it's easy to think that something's going wrong. And if something does go wrong, there's not a whole lot you can do, so don't blame yourself. | |
