right well thats me on holiday tommorow. ive given the tanks a good misting, and put a few crickets in for the scorplings. im relying on my good friend david to look after em and make sure they are ok. see ya's.

the scorps are doing good, and the big mamma had her first feed in agggeeessss. it was a waxworm.

i've now got four "klip n' lock" plastic containers. they are like tupperware tubs but better.

so i've got a few in each tub, and they are all out of the krappy kritter keeper.

they seem to be doing better now.

and they like thier waxworms! (just as a treat, of course)

awwww all seperated from brothers and sisters. I love keeping them all together. You get to see wonderful things!

CANNIBLISM!

man! I caught one of my 3i groups munching on the last 2i.

this sucks! why would they do this? I fed them all last night! GRRRRRRR!!

Sometimes it happens, dude. It's just a lot less common with this species.

I know this happens with scorps sometimes, and i would expect it at some point. but i'm most suprised at the fact they were doing it just after I feed them all.

you might notice that soon they have groups in their burrows. one end will be the 3I's and one end will be the 4I's
Im worried about mine because they had that "size protection" but since cleaning them and head counting, their burrows are all together and they are all living together.

All you can do is keep up the feeding and whatever happens, happens.

ok, all the scorps are doing fine so far, although i'm looking for another cage for the babies. they don't have enough room, and I fear it might lead to more cannibalism....
and big momma is doing fine as well i'm giving her a massive chilout period. (5-7 weeks with absolutley no disturbance) to see if it wil mabye start her eating again.

ok, all is well, the lil' guys have been feeding well and a few look like they are gonna explode.

I moved all the lil' guys into one tank, a krapy kritter keeper. a group built a burrow at one end of the tank, and another group built one at the other side, and they kept burrowing until the two burrows merged with eatch other and created a big cave/cavern type thing where they all live. and they are expanding it. Quite funny. and there is one little guy who is incredibly fat and eats anything that goes near the "cave". i've stoped feeding them cause if the mega-fat ones get any fatter I think it may cause moulting problems.


so, all in all, they are doing well.

More canabalism


found a carcass outside one of the brurrows.... only the mesosoma and metasoma. no limbs...


I think they ate him during a moult.

and the carcass was riddled with mites.





anyway, I moved one of the baby scorps in with momma. they have bumped into eatch other a few times and nothing happened... the fem. sorta just gently squeezed the baby and they were on thier way. I hope I won't find any more carcasses....

You'll almost always get a little cannibalism, so don't beat yourself up.

Think of it this way: if you breed just the survivors, then you'll get a healthier scorpion gene-pool.

*sigh*...

If you're getting really worried about it, then separate them. I wanted to keep my mordax communal but decided not to so each could be made sure to get prey and not become cannibalized.

The mites are probably the predatory species taking advantage of any leftovers that might be around. They're nothing to worry about. Mites are only a problem when you have the grain mite species.

I was thinking that, they are the "cleanup crew" mites by the looks of it, white, and a bit larger than the grain species.



I dunno about seperating....

don't really have enough tubs or mats. I might just devide them up into smaller groups.

well, everyone is doing well. 2 of the 3i's are now 4i's. one moulted last week, but did so in a dry spot, losing a walking leg and bending it's metasoma, it can't sting crickets, when it trys, it's tail just goes of to the side and into the ground. it's almost as if it's frustrated... but it's eating now. I think they are starting to rely more in their chela than thier venom now. i've not seen the other one that moulted for a few days now, he's hiding in a burrow.


do you think the scorp will be able to fix the tail injury gradualy? with eatch moult? I hope so..

probably not...but if it does take some pictures.
