It does make you look with different eyes to that cute thing once you see it strike, doesn't it?
I'm getting tired of repeating, but it would be wrong not to do it... Great shots buddy! I'm jealous - you've got something money can't buy, Talent!
I'm curious though, how close do you need to get with your gear to get those shots?

My current gears are not costly, entry level Nikon D3100, Nikon Kit Lens 18-55mm, DCR250, under full manual settings and good lighting from a cheap table lamp. Thankfully, these results are achievable
If there's anything i can help, i'll gladly share. Just a shout will do

Exactly what I meant With a relatively unexpensive setup you are able to achieve result some people wouldn't achieve even with a $5k gear.

Thank you bud. We all can improve our photos. With expensive gears or not, the ultimate formula is still practice.. the more we shoot the better we will get.
I start from entry level, as i believe only when i have reached the limit of my current gears then i will find my money's worth after an upgrade.
Honestly i had my eyes on so many gears upgrade e.g. ring/twin macro flash.. 90mm tamron 2.8 macro.. but everytime i just caved in to get more exotic pets... like this pastel as i mentioned to you

100% agree with you. The same reason I didn't get a DSLR although I really wanted it. And good I didn't, I still can't work out the correct settings with my current camera. Manual focusing is still a no-no for me too. But I'll get there...slowly.
The positive side is, you didn't get the lens and flash, but you got one more subject you can practice and improve your skills on
I'm working on custom fitting a close-up filter/lens and a DIY ring flash on mine as soon as I find some spare time.
Back to the main topic
You reminded me, it was feeding day (actually it should had been yesterday). So I decided to try and get a video on it. Apparently though, it looks like she really did not enjoy being filmed. Usually she always takes the prey within 10 secs and starts eating it straight away. But today:
#1
Looks like she saw something more "delicious"...maybe the guy holding the camera
Well, OK, let's go for second try:
And AGAIN...aaargh!
Anyway, shut down the camera and went to lift the mouse and prepare for a 3rd attempt to get a feeding shot...and what did she do? As soon as I touch the feeder and lift it 1cm above substrate, she strikes it full power and finally accepts it.
So yeah, I think the camera intimidates her

Thanks for the recommendation! Unfortunately, i'm not in US where you have such great choices for feeders and frozen as well. I'm located in SE Asia. Over at my area, hamsters are more commonly found as compared to mice/rats and they're in cheap prices too. However, i'm trying to reach some local breeders to inform me once their mice/rats breeders give birth or when they have supplies

Nice pics! Did the hamster get its teeth on your boy in those pics?

Thanks bud.
I almost thought that my boy suffered a bite during the 2nd feeding but on a closer inspection, just like the first feeding, it was the same overpowering constriction that incapacitate the feeder instantaneously . You can see the effect of the death grip through the eyes of the feeder.
I'm still trying to get my hands on some mice/rats.. no luck yet :/
Just saw my boy got a quick dip at his water bowl. It was cool. I guess he was telling me he is feeling HOT and needed some cooling.. lolz

Cool! I've never seen mine dip in the water, she's funny when she goes for a drink though. I need to make another photoshoot, she's grown a bit since the last one. She just hit the 200 gr. mark and got her feedings upgraded (from 1 med mouse per 5 days to 2 mice per week). She've been staying a lot out of her hide too the last days, either it's getting too warm for her, or she just can't fit in it anymore -> Time to upgrade her setup I guess.

New enclosures are always fun
This is a 40 gallon tank I did for her made of foam and grout.
