| The mites aren't a problem -- they're just opportunistic. When they find something dead, they have a population explosion because there's so much food for them.
The fact they're feeding on dead stuff is a good sign, because it shows that they're scavengers and help to keep things clean.
Just remove the dead babies and leftovers, and the populations won't get so high they become a nuisance.

| Ok Mike, taking heed of all of you guys valuable advice,
Was wondering if there is any information anywhere about breeding Dubia roach as feeders, I've just had a box come through. Also wondering are they supposed to look like woodlice (they are nymphs)
I should have about 100 of them.

| I always say that they look like trilobites. Check out this link from our feeder caresheets section. If you have more questions about the roaches, just ask in the feeder questions and discussions forum. | |

| Ok folk,
On Saturday i picked up a free tank that was not in use, Though originally I planned to house my slings individually I decided to put them all in a communal tank due to lack of space.
Mother Scorp was digging massive burrows under and around the large cork bark the provides her a hide i was afraid of cave-ins and buried 2i's so Saturday night I set it up and moved them out.
Count 14 left but all seem pretty healthy.
Picked up ome more coco substrate on Sunday to make it deeper for burrowing so now it is about 6 inches deep with plenty of hides and water gel so they dont drown.
Not sure about feeding though. I saw a few feeding on broken hoppers while with mum, do i need to cut up the hoppers as they are pretty big.
Also what instar will it be safe to giive them new homes?

| Regarding water gel, it's pretty useless for scorps, and emps are known to submerge themselves without a problem. Just give them shallow dishes (such as a bottle cap) that they can climb out of again.
Regarding prey, I would suggest using young roaches or small crickets.

| Ok I have a bag of gravel i was going to use for a false bottom set-up but 1. The tank had a crack inthe bottom and 2. It would have been way too heavy. so i'll put some in a water bowl to stop them from drowning asthey are only small.
Would you recommend crickets over small hoppers? They looks nicer and smell less.
Have got some eyoung roach to breed but I think i'll need some adults as i've read it takes ages for them to mature.

| I've never used non-cricket orthoptera, so whatever works best for you.
Yeah, if you've got some roaches, just let them mature and breed for a few months before feeding from them.

| Ok just as a record to self (as it is my thread) over the last few days my babies are shedding into 5i. How many sheds until adulthood? as they are still pretty small? | |

| No worries, Kuma -- this is a perfect example of when gravedigging is A-OK. It's kind of hard to tell from those photos but they look almost subadult. I have no idea how many instars emps go through, but if their telsons are cream-colored, there's only one molt left. If they're still white, then there are at least two molts remaining. | |
