| Who could have though a molt could be disappointing? Apparently it can. My other H. tamulus molted and turned out it's also a mail, so the breeding project I had planned, is now canceled, or atleast pretty much delayed as I'm not sure if I'll be able to find a sub-ad/adult female. I might need to get some more young and wait about a year for them to reach maturity. Sexing: 37 pectines=Male | |

Anyway, just keep these two males healthy like what you are already doing. Who knows, you might chance upon a sub-adult or adult female and get her shipped to you this summer. Whenever getting slings for a breeding project, my recommendation is to get 4-5 to ensure at least a breeding pair.. if they are not too costly

Don't remember how many I had, maybe 3 or 4, while 1 I lost in a bad molt.

How are you feeding these slings? Pinhead crickets. They´ve been getting anything between 1 and 12mm. Depending on what my supplier has. No strict feeding schedule due to food availability. I´m trying to feed them 2 times a week, but there was times they didn´t get food for nearly 2 weeks (then they got headcrushed midsized mealies, or alive ones around 5-8mm - but most of them did not take any of them). Now I need to get rid of most of them to finance my next breeding project. I will keep not more than 5-10 of these slings for future breeding. The mom is slowly getting ready for her next brood anyway I would say not more than 1-2 months until she´s due.

| A. bicolor molt This one just reached 5i. - 5i A. bicolor "aeneas":
#1 #2
This was one of my most awaited molts for a while, as it was supposed to show if a have a pair or now. The best pectineshot I could get show 26 or 27 teeth (leaning towards 27), but my eyes seem to be playing tricks with me The previous shot from the other specimen is far from clear enough for an accurate count so I'll have to wait it to molt to 6i. At the time, my guess was 25-26 teeth and male. Apparently, I've been considering wrong PCTs for sexing, as the aeneas morph differs slightly from the regular one, being 20-27 for females and 27-32 for males. Any help in counting the teeth in the pic are appreciated, 26 would mean 100% female, 27 would be a 50/50 chance. Still keeping my hopes up for a pair as bicolors are non-existant in my country, and the aeneas morph being even more rare in the hobby. Pectineshot:

| It's the weirdest thing. Everything I've seen shows an overlap. A. bicolor male 26-32; female 20-27 and since I don't have any I can't help you very much. Yours is definitely 27.
Sorry!!! | |

| That one is gorgeous TLB. At what temps did you keep it? [quote=tfleming] It's the weirdest thing. Everything I've seen shows an overlap. It's a great help getting a second pair of eyes to confirm I haven't miscounted. Yes, most of the time there is an overlap in pectine teeth counts. Some species actually do not even show sexual dimorphism in the pectines. Where did you get that PTC info for A. bicolor from? It differs slightly from the info I have. I usually use two sources, the one stated by GS and the one given by Eric Ythier. E. Ythier is a known french scorpiologist, while our own GS, has never let us down with incorrect info Both guys state 19-24 for females, 23-29 for males. Ythier's info for A. bicolor aeneas is 20-27 for females, 27-32 for males. #sorry for the long post# | |
