| With that duct tape it might still allow them to climb it, I would put a flap above it so when you close the lid the flaps fold down a bit to make a makeshift seal between the lid and the wall.
Also they can climb around in that ribbing too, like the top left one can get to the bottom right one by following the ribbing.
Just a thought, they might not be able to climb that tape but I always thought duct tape was a tad grippy. I used packing tape and it worked well, it's what I use for the outside of pinhead cricket buckets too, they cant grip the stuff. | |

| Cool, I havent had any climb anymore, but now they dig toward each other. I'm going to check if i got packing tape, just to be sure on the edges as you said some flaps. Do you have pictures of yours? These Mauritanicus are, I must say, in an entire other ballpark than the bicolor scorplings regarding activity and brilliant ideas how to escape, catch crickets and climb whatever they find, including human hands and horizontal forceps. They are even faster, it might be my imagination though. But the proof is that one killed a bicolor longecarinatus. I 'm knocking dearly on wood, hoping they will be less stressy when they are adults. I'm very very happy that from i4 and onwards, they wont be able to climb and burst in speeds like that. Awesome species though. @street, well dude it saved me a cricket to feed.. or no, he killed the cricket in the same container too, darn.. @cbohn, you might check shipping. I believe scorpions when shipped right, can travel all around the world... | |

| How big do they get? Around the size of australis? That's the only andros i've ever seen live. Really want this species, but with an LD50 of 0.31 I'm not 100% sure yet. Though i've heard even an LQ or autralis wouldn't kill a healthy human. And I'm not supposed to let it ting me anyway. lol | |

| They get about as big as Australis. Maybe slightly less. Still good for 10cm though. Dont focus on LD50 values, they are made to have some comparison. But they are boogus to say the least.
No scorpion can kill a healthy adult human... none. Not to say it would be pleasant, but it is highly overrated. However, if you got a kid in the house I would think twice.
Antivenom is not available, only mildly effective so urgent medical treatment would be necessaru on children. That I do believe!

| Also different scorpions have different "recipies" for their venom if im not wrong. I've heard about this guy who got stung by an LQ, and that messed up his cardia for a year, whenever he tried to lie down, his food would just come up, so he had to sleep sitting. That said, NEVER underestimate ANY animal that has strong venom or big teeth. | |

| You are right about having respect of these little guys and the mix of goodies they make which some persons are more sensitive to than others. I do think some pack a big punch. However, the dude did live and it is the "most venomous", "deadly" species right there. Ought to have been a very bad reaction! This happens sometimes. Mesobuthus, now hottentotta Tamulus, has an insane mortality rate of no less than 30%!!!!!! WOW! So you get stung, chances are 1 on 3 you might have had a shorter life than you expected it to be. Now I know someone that got stung and yes it hurt. No he didnt die, yes his arm, right up to his shoulder went numb, painful and motionless. Other than the pain, that was it. He must have been terribly lucky or superman. Never underestimate them, but never give them a bad name, from hear and tell, either. I have not been stung and chances are, if you are using a brain, that you will never get stung. I dont go deeper into the discussion about how deadly they are, since it is all theorycrafting and hearsay... Personally, if you're healthy, weigh more than 120 pounds and get stung on a finger (not abdomen, chest, neck or head) you prolly have more risk of dying getting struck by lightning. Never keep these out of the thrill they could send you to heaven or hell! But because you think they are cool to watch and to take care of. If you want something that truely can kill you.. no matter your condition or weight, get a venomous snake like a naja naja or taipan or Gaboon Vipers. They are sold just as readily. I would never keep any of those, ever because i treasure life too much. Bottomline and I think Will said it as it is, have respect for them. Even though not deadly, it does hurt. I even go crying when a bee stings me. Oh yes, people die of bee-stings too apparently. Makes them "deadly" too! As for kids, yes they can kill kids. That is why I would not take any Buthid into my home when I become a daddy. I hate kids so will not happen | |
