PostSubject: ok i need some advice...   ok i need some advice... Empty4/14/2010, 8:22 pm

im really thinking of getting rid of my C. hentzis (itll be hard because i actually caught them)
but i wanna get rid of them because the pet store has baby scorpions fresh from the mother and i was wondering what instar they have to be before you can accurately sex them.
im aiming on getting a male because eventually when it matures i can mate it with one of my two females.
plus i can watch it mature and molt and etc, etc...

im already dead set on the fact that i want one, but i absolutely need to know when i can accurately sex one...
if i had to judge, id say they are between 2 to 4i...

any advice/suggestions would be absolutely appreciated considering i come here for everything on my scorpions =)

If they are "fresh" from the mother then they are likely to be either 2i or 3i.

Bare in mind, that if you get an immature specimen that you wish to mate in the future, it can take a very long time for them to reach maturity - often years in captivity.

I still have some of my baby emps from my brood. They are just over 1 year old by a couple of days, and they are only just starting to approach 5i out of 7 because they are female.

Compared with other shared online experiences, apparently this is a pretty fast growing rate for my emps.

So just be warned, if you get an immature specimen, even if it is 5i out of 6 for a male, it could molt and mature in a few weeks, months or it could mature in about a year maybe more. Obviously, the younger the scorpions the longer you will have to wait for it to mature with every proceding instar taking longer to reach.

Pretty early, I tried mine at 4i and it was clear as day with a magnifying glass. Smile
