| Hi,
I kept emperor scorpions in my room when I was in the army some years back and a few months ago managed to sort myself out with a new set up with a pair of sub adult emps. I've loved having scorpions again and my Mrs has commented on my new obsession. My issue is that since adding an Exo-Terra rock outcrop a few weeks back I seem to now have the usual "pet hole" scenario.
I have an empty Exo-Terra 30x30x30 terrarium awaiting a new addition to my collection. My initial idea of species being H.Arizonensis as this will be a totally different micro climate to care for than the emps (Heterometrus would just be the same thing repeated)>
My question to you all is this, out of the list below of species that catch my eye, which would you recommend as a second species to compliment already owning a pair of emps?
H.Arizonensis Hadogenes sp Scorpio Maurus
I don't want something too advanced to care for but I want something a more active/interesting than lazy emps.

| All of those are completely different from Pandinus imperator, so you should try looking at it from a different angle. The whole "difficulty setting" doesn't apply to most scorpions. It's your ability to research and coordinate how you're able to replicate the ideal environment for each species. And I say this because H. arizonensis, Hadogenes, and S. maurus are found in different parts of the world, but each fall under the category of 'desert scorpions' if you look on the internet (and newsflash, 'desert' doesn't mean scorching hot an dry, just google antarctica).
Personally, I think ANY scorpion makes a good beginner/intermediate species regardless of experience. Just note that 'experience' and 'maturity' are two different things, but go best when they're hand in hand.
But if you just want someone to make the decision for you because you're finding it difficult to decide, I'd say go for Hadogenes paucidens. They're something I've wanted to own for a long time, and only seen a couple of them in person for the first time last month. They're beasts. The ones I saw can probably out-tank my emperor.

| Appreciate the advice. How active are they? I'm loving the emps but lets be honest, even at night, they can be boring. | |

| That they are, and Hadogenes are no better. But I can think of two reasons why they would be awesome to have. 1) They can live a REALLY long time. Like 20 years if you're lucky. 2) They have one of the slowest metabolisms ever. They don't eat as often as other scorpions do. | |

| Thanks for the recomendation, no disrespect intended, but it sounds like Hadogenes ain't gonna be the one I go for then. As impressive a big species as it may be, I want something a bit more active.
I've heard/read that H.Arizonensis is a lot more active than an emp and apparently is more likely to actively hunt prey than wait in ambush. If anyone knows otherwise I'd appreciate your input.

| Go with what you want man. If you're gonna get a desert hairy, just make sure it's an adult. | |

| I agree with either a Haddy or Hadogenes.
Also, I don't know if you've seen this or not: Scorp-O-Matic - Choose Your Scorpion Wizard!

| Just done the Scorp-O-Matic. It said Death Stalker or Fat Tail. Unfortunately these are a no no as the Mrs refuses to allow these in the house with the kids and other pets. They'll leave home one day though | |

Then it sounds like you used the Scorp-O-Matic wrong.
