im seriously confused....

ok so i got another emp today from the pet store and i didnt think twice, i dropped it straight into the tank.

is there any other way besides the pectine to differentiate male from female?

because both of them have small pectines, with small pectinal teeth, and i thought this meant theyre both female, but seeing them be face to face always starts a fight and i dont want them fighting...

Did you remove the old scorpion and move around the things in the enclosure? If not, it's probably a territorial dispute - your old scorpion has her scent everywhere.

i put my 1st in the old tank.
and the new one has been crawling all over the main tank since late this afternoon.

i was just wondering if i should just let them fight it out and see what happens or just keep them separated and switch around the tank?

take them both out. put the new girl in first. make sure there are plenty of hides. trust me, mine fought at first too. if its more than just a scuffle, separate them.

I recommend taking both out, sticking them in whatever's handy, then rearranging the whole tank (including stirring up the substrate). This ought to reduce or eliminate any established territories.

If you're confused about the sex, put up some pectine shots. If your camera isn't cooperating, do you have a flatbed scanner? Those work great too (but you may have to put a towel on top of the scorpion to keep it from moving around).

ive messed with every setting in my camera and this is all i could do...

if you look closely, you could see the small pectines (which lead me to believe that its female)

as far as i can tell it appears to be males but the shots are not clear enough.

With macro on (usually denoted by a tulip icon), try aiming a flashlight at the scorpion so your camera knows what to focus on.

The first one looks like a male to me but the bottom one's operculum looks a little heart-shaped suggesting female.

I'm not talking about changing the macro settings, I'm talking about turning them on. Virtually all digital cameras have a macro mode. Digital zoom just makes things blurrier.

the operculum looks totally like an oval.

well, its wider at the top than the bottom but we'll hopefully get a better pic soon.

well i looked up the manual on the internet to my camera and i couldnt find any trace of changing the macro settings or even turning them on

Simply, macro

no symbol like that is in my camera...

hmmm, that sucks i guess. How are they doing now anyways?

theyre doin pretty good...i have them in separate tanks...
and i have pics...my digi camera doesnt have macro settings,
but my other digi cam does

but this the best i could do between the two cameras and playing with the settings on the other cam

Its real hard to tell the of either of those pictures. The first one appears to be a male but i may be incorrect from the lack of ability to see. The 2nd one is trash I myself cant see jack. Very nice set ups tho.

yeah the flash and the glare of the flashlight off the glass is really messing it up...
im still trying to figure out how to get the best close up pic i can get of them...

pick up scorpion, put towel on top, flip scorpion, take pic, place scorpion back?

The way i did it was i just dangled them by the tail... i kno that sounds extremely horrible but thats how i ed mine. Or if you put them in a little plastic container with a clear bottom.
