| When i got home tonight ( around 10:oo pm ) in the dining room talking on the phone as i turned around and looked at my invert rack and noticed one of my Emp. had given birth to a small brood ( 5 of them so far ). I`m so excited for this. I will have pix up this weekend.
But i do have a few questions though. 1. how long does it take for an Emp mother to drop out the whole brood
2. from what i have gather during the few years being on the forums, Don't Emps normally drop out 20 to 50 slings
3. is there anything special i need to do while the slings are still on the mother, like temps, moisture
thanks mark | |

| 1. Time usually varies for the female to drop. I usually just give them a day and no more progress has been made then she should be done. Just leave the mom and her scorplings together until the scorplings leave and then separate the mother.
2. Brood sizes are actually pretty small. Somewhere between 10-30 I think. Most cases I see are on the low end of that scale.
3. I would keep the temps and humidity the same. Because she already requests high humidity the scorplings will be fine. After about a week you can also prekill a cricket or roach and put it in there to see if the mother will eat it. This will further prevent her from snacking on her young.

| I've known people to leave the brood in with mom without problems . . .
I don't think it's necessary to offer prey while she's carrying. They usually refuse.

| Ive heard the same thing of keeping the scorplings with the mom even after they are ready to eat on their and have no problems at all
right i still have the 5 scorplings on the mom and i had placed them in the back room where the temps are around 85 and i made sure the peat was moist enough so won't too easy to dry out.

| She might be finished then...or has been snacking? *eeek* Just keep the humidity up. When the babies came off mums back I left them for a few days. I poured EXTRA water into one corner and they drank from there. Mum was very thirsty too. You can leave them with mum or take them from mum. its upto you. I took mine out at nearly 3 weeks old. I had a brood of 19 and two have died...wait no...3 have died. so still not too bad. Im going a head count this weekend and doing a full tank clean *have to do this to do a head count* Good luck with the young she does have, im sure it will be fine also. she wont feed. My female didnt. she sorta chewed at one but mainly refused food xxx | |
