| Hey guys. I just got this female flat rock scorp, my first scorpion, and today three days after settling in to her new home, she just gave birth to a single dead scorpling, or at least it was dead when I saw it. Shes only eaten a single superworm since I got her, and she didnt seem interested in the small dubia roach I put in with her today. Shes been coming out of her hide and basking under the heat bulb I have for her which is weird, she usually just sits in her hide.
Does this mean more scorplings will come? If so, should I feed her so she doesn't eat the baby scorplings? Should I disturb her at all?

| I would just leave her be, don't stress her out, did she look gravid then? Or not as this seems to be quite a shock to you? she may have more, she may have already eaten them all, I've had scorps have unformed fetuses too. wouldn't worry about her not eating, they will often go months without food. Are U certain it was a baby? | |

| She didnt look gravid that I could see, but from what Ive read there are about 4 other online instances of female olive flat rocks giving birth without looking gravid. It was indeed a baby, but it was dead, and she left her hide (where it was) to bask in the warm lamp which is odd for her. She went back in her hide and carried the baby to the entrance of the hide in her claws and set it down. I took that as a sign to get rid of it. This morning she had another small living baby actually on her back. I haven't disturbed her aside from misting the enclosure as I read the babies can easily die of low humidity.
Im not sure if I should feed her a superworm or not, I dont want her to eat her babies or re absorb the embryos. One on site it says not to disturb her, but it also says underfed pregnant females may reabsorb the babies inside. I dont want that to happen, i want these babies to live. Should I leave her alone or feed her a crushed-head superworm?

| You could try her with some food, if she's not interested just remove it, however it's more likely she would eat her babies through stress rather than hunger, I've had scorps have first few born be dead and then loads come out just fine, I normally wait till they all on mums back before I try to feed her, Congrats on your first brood | |

| Alright I'll wait until the babies are out before attempting to feed her. Now I'll just leave her alone. Thanks a bunch! | |

| Update: she was sitting with her claws out near her hide entrance like the first day when I got her. Like I said, I wasn't gonna disturb her but apparently this is a sign that the scorpion is hungry and waiting for food to walk by. Weighing the options, I finally decided to crush the head of a superworm and put it near her claws and she is currently eating it pretty ravenously so who knows. I will follow up on what happens in the next few days. I hope people in the same predicament as I can see this and get something out of it. | |

| In the end she gave birth to a clutch of babies. Funny, she didnt look gravid at all. Most of the babies died, except for one that made it to the next stage. It's a lot more vigorous than the others so it must have been the strongest scorpling.
that's the end of that, I guess.

| Well, congratulations on getting one scorpling to survive! I still think that if the mother was from the wild she gave birth when she felt was comfortable to her and the gestation period might have been way too long while she was in transport from the wild. So, there was nothing you could do! She is comfy in your care | |
