| Hi again... As I posted earlier after finding out my first emp was a male, I ordered a female(waiting on confirmation) anyway here's a few pics of the (fingers crossed) girl. Also looking at the colour of her telson I would say she isn't fully mature yet. [img][/img] Dom | |

| We need to see her under side specifically the little oval between her pectines clearly. It doesn't have to be the most zoomed in shot ever but clearer is better.
That scorpion is for sure a sub adult. It's looking pretty big so it may only be 1 molt away from adult. But it doesn't look all that ready to molt yet so be patient. | |

| The underside picture is in the sexing section, take a look, some bodies already said female but the more opinion the better. Yeah she's smaller than my male but still no minnow. Do you have any idea how long the last fm few molts take I'm thinking 6 months or so between them. Which is fine it'll be great watching her moly and grow... | |

| I don't know actually. My male emp took 5 months to pop and he was a sausage when I got him. The pics are somewhere in the emp forum or look up my posts. you have maybe a year to wait for her still? Just a guess. | |

| You can increase the heat a bit to speed up the growing process | |

| I’m doing it right now “power heating” my T. stigmurus to get them to adult size ASAP. They’re in the mid- to high 90’s right now all of them 1-2 molts away from maturity. This species is partho so I’m trying to get them blow up and pop and hopefully spread them out after a few generations. | |

| Wow I'm deffo going to do some research on this 'super heating' method. If it means I could have a brood quicker without harming the girl Ill have to do an experiment and put it on here. | |

| The quick explanation is that heating them more increases their metabolism and therefore their growth rate. | |

| I'm trying to "power feed" my scorpions, but it's not very effective when the scorpion takes 2 1/2 month breaks in between meals. Haha. | |

| Power feeding and heating will speed up metabolism but that also means your scorpion will age faster and die sooner. It's at trade off. Also just cranking the heat and thinking everything will work out faster is a bit misleading. Don't take the heat range outside of a safe limit and risk killing your scorpion with over heating or dehydration. In fact you should do a search for hot box to see how others have successfully done this and with what species. | |

| Oh, trust me. The temperature is at 80, and I'm horrible and trying to power feed. It doesn't do anything if food isn't needed. | |

| I'd like to point out I agree with yames, keep it safe temps and under triple digits (although some people would say bordering 100 is ok). I would say an emp, with a water bowl and sufficient humidity can do well at the mid 90's. The reason I'm doing it is, quite frankly I prefer to have these multiply than live long. I'm actually doing the opposite for my H.judaicus since haven't found a male I'm keeping her about 76f to slow down growth. | |

| Ok, I am going to say something about "power feeding" ..... about the way I have seen it through the years and the results of said.
I don't want to argue or attack anyone in particular, but I feel very strongly about this and want to share it. So it is my opinion.
"Power feeding" is a phenomenon I have encountered a few times. It consists of the owner, stuffing the scorpion to increase its metabolism and making it grow faster. Also seen with Tarantulas. Most of the times the reason for this is that the owner finds a bigger scorpion a lot cooler and does not have sufficient patience for scorpion husbandry.
I think it's the equivalent of fattening a turkey for thanksgiving or making a chicken grow so hard it is out of proportions and bloating. It's not healthy.
I think this method is barbaric and a form of animal abuse.
We as humans can not afford to have the arrogance to presume we can alter living beings just to suit our needs even if we make it politically correct in any way. It's abuse.
I wouldn't advise cranking up its metabolic rate, it is not healthy. And dangerous. The mesosoma can even burst when pressure is too high, and the animal is gorging itself. If one knows want they are getting into, you know patience and respect are bare necessities in scorpion husbandry.
I have spoken to many people on fora and in person about this. If you truly love our animal and you want to make it happy, then respect it's natural life cycle and enjoy all the cool experiences, that come with watching a little one grow.
Joe
