| Hello I bought a scorpion today on July 4th lol and I was recommended to this forum by a guy I work with that has scorpions. I had some questions about him first is my terrarium good? Second I have had him about 2 hours and hes just been chillin in front of the red heat lamp I got is that ok? Third will he eventually burrow or will he just hide under stiff like the rock on the right side?

| Hello, and welcome ! 1. Your setup looks good, you have done your homework 2. Live it alone, he needs to know his surroundings, he will settle down in a few hours/days at most. 3. No way to tell, both versions are possible. Cheers! | |

| It's hard to tell from the thumbnail, but the setup looks great as has been said. Also as said, some take a while to "settle in" to things. Some will burrow, some will just hang out under a hide. | |

It is not recommended to feed wild insects to your scorpions, they may be harbouring pesticides. best to feed them insects that have been captive bred. and LOL at the naked chicken!! | |

| The sex should be determined to alleviate the he/she bs. Check the shape of the genital operculum. The pectines are also another easy way to tell. Look: This image points out the pectinal length as the decisive factor. See the chitin plate at the origin of the pectines? Its called the genital operculum. The shape differs from male to female as well. Males tend to have a more ovular shape... i guess equating to a football (american football, of course) while the females typically have a shape resembling... i dunno... the general shape of the head of a fly-when viewed from the anterior- but with rounded points. Males can have a slightly round, almost circular shape to their operculum as well...but keep in mind that the female would have 2 sharper rounded lobes-lobes not typically present in a male Emp... as you can see in the image above. PS...doesn't my rooster kick ass? | |

| I'd say that's too big a meal -- not because your emp could overeat, but because he'd likely have leftovers that would attract all sorts of unpleasant scavengers (or just smell bad). | |

| He ate it all. I was pretty suprised. The emps in the burrow all shared one. There were about three down there sharing it. | |

| It's a subadult (one molt left), so whatever instar corresponds to that. I seem to remember emps having more than five instars, but I could be wrong. | |

| you have 5I to go though yet. My little one has been in 4I for over 6 months and no sign of moulting yet! So expect 4I to last a long time To get to 5th takes a long time but then at 6I or 7I will be mature. (ive heard females take one more then males) | |
