Setting Up an H. Arizonensis Tank Empty
PostSubject: Setting Up an H. Arizonensis Tank   Setting Up an H. Arizonensis Tank Empty12/17/2012, 6:30 pm

First off, I'd like to thank all of you for your information recently regarding the selection of my next Scorpion. All y'all rock.

With some helpful input from Shebeen, I've built my Haddy Enclosure, but now I'm wondering how long I should allow it to sit and dry. So far, it's been under the heat lamp for about a week. The whole surface looks dry and hardened, however on the deep side of the enclosure, I can tell that only about an inch or so of the very top is actually dry to sight. Should I be concerned about the deeper parts of the tank?

I'd like to get my little friend set up before the holidays, and am hoping to place an order for him soon, but I don't want to rush the process. What have you all experienced?

Also, pictures.

Taken the day the tank was set up. All substrate was still moist.

Scorp's Eye View of the premade hides, so he has somewhere to go upon being introduced.

A good image of the coloration from wet to dry substrate. I used a 5:1 ratio of Excavator Clay and Play Sand, as advised previously.

This has been sitting for a week under a 90w bulb. I'm not sure how much more change in substrate I should expect.

If it were me, I'd give it another week. I know it's hard to wait, but I would want the deep end to be dry at least half way down to the bottom before adding the scorp. Eventually all your substrate will dry and turn the color you see on the surface, but it takes time. My enclosure took over 2 weeks to dry and, if I recall, the same is true for Jamie and Bex.
