PostSubject: Female G. rosea Ate immature Male.. question...   Female G. rosea Ate immature Male.. question... Empty12/2/2012, 6:00 pm

my female G. rosea ate my immature male ( ithink it was male ) they couldnt of had sex becuase the male was immature ....

they were in the same plastic tank but there was a divider that came with the tank, it was a tight fit i dont understand how my female could have got to the immatures side...... when i put the divider in a check to make sure it fit tight...

i went to feed everything today and the female was on top of the immature T and eating it.. Crying or Very sad

i called my uncle to see if he put the two spiders in the same cage and he said he didnt.... but i have no clue how they could have gotten on the same side....

can tarantulas squeez threw super tight spaces >????

apparently the female didnt like the male. Crying or Very sad

Yes.

When the lid was on, was there any gap at all between the lid and the top of the divider?

Was there any space for it to burrow under the divider?

Pics of the setup?

In the future, if you must divide a tank, get a piece of plexiglass cut to fit the tank exactly. If it's a typical glass aquarium, and you're using a screen top that fits over the tank, then you will have to break the lip of the tank (where a glass or plastic top would go) so that the divider goes all the way to the screen top.

it was a plastic cage, the biggest one at petco, in the reptile section, about 6 inches high.

i dont know how much a centimeter is or a millimeter, but example, i couldnt even come close to putting my pinkie finger threw the space of the divider.

i dont know if it went over top or under, but she got threw somehow. Crying or Very sad

Well that sucks man but these things do happen. . .tarantulas are notorious for teleporting across dividers, the less expensive one will eat the more expensive one, etc.

It may be more likely the smaller tarantula went to the females side but reguardless of who went where I never use divided tanks for tarantulas or scorpions , they almost always end in disaster.

Watch this video for a good example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pzm9pZgVOI
