And, you should keep them on a thick layer of peat. As a first T, I thinks most people will find them boring, since they spend the most of their lives safely hidden in their burrows.

| Well, it looks like a great first tarantula to me! Lori says this is a gorgeous species. Funny thing about the cobalt -- our friends' is NEVER out of its burrow, but when Lori and I bug-sat it was out every night! It must have liked us. | |

| Ok. so now he wants a curly hair tarantula:Brachypelma albopilosa I have to admit im a bit concerned since read on the internet it can be agressive and skittish and very good at escaping!!! It says its a burrowing tarantula! So what substrate? the soil and vercumilate we can buy in the shop or just soaked plantation soil? We wont rehome the tarantula until I see your replies xxxxx | |

| B. albo is great -- Dragontears from AB donated one to the bug zoo, and she's perfect for taking out and showing the kids, even letting them pet her legs. I think it's a great beginner T. I describe it to the kids as a "furry rock with 8 legs."
The best substrate I can recommend for any T is just cocofiber kept to the appropriate moisture level for the species (in this case, dry with a water dish).
