| I'm happy to report that I'm now a member of the Parabuthus Club . I acquired a P. liosoma from Ken a few days ago. I wanted the adult he had for sale, but someone beat me to it, so I purchased one of his smaller individuals. Here's some pics: I didn't ask, but I would guess this guy is 4i or 5i. The coin is 1 inch (2.5cm) in diameter. Let's dig us a home. The little bugger is like a Beagle with 8 legs. | |

| I agree; I really like the coloration. I was considering getting a H. arizonensis pallidus, but I didn't want to spend 2 weeks drying out the substrate. I'll save that project for this summer . These guys only need a couple inches of sand and a hide. | |

| Indeed. They are incredibly easy to care for, but also in my experience incredibly shy. They are beautiful scorpions though. I love the "organic" look of the black tip. Congrats! | |

I'm unsure of the gender as I haven't been able to get a decent ventral photo. I've got it housed in a small kritter keeper that sits in a 2.5gal glass tank. My camera doesn't focus well through that much glass and plastic. The scorp's been out two nights in a row trying to climb the sides of the tank, so eventually I hope to get a clear shot of the pectines.

| For Parabuthus species a pectine count isn't required to sex them. There are quite obvious differences in males and females. In adults the chela of males are quite bulbous, and all females have the pronounced "tooth" on the basal middle lamella. Examples are here.
I'm sure that most of our users already know this (including you Richard), and it has been covered in this thread before. The link I provided offers very clear examples of the sexual dimorphism in the genera as well as a lot of other useful information.

| Yep, this thread is a great resource. I took a few more pics this morning and I think I have one that shows the enlarged lamellae of a female. | |

| Thanks GS. Your caresheet has been a big help. My gal took down a medium cricket last night, so now I'm looking forward to getting her through her remaining molts to adulthood. | |

| Your female should have a good appetite and gets "plump-up" real quick to proceed to the next molt. Do keep her adequately hydrated and her enclosure well-ventilated.
Glad that you find my caresheet useful shebeen. This Parabuthus spp thread consolidates many of the good observations from the forumers here as well.
I'm sure we can learn from you too.
Cheers,

| My friend, hows your multiple brood of P.transvaalicus doing? Cleared off most of them ? If i rem correctly, your slings could have reach 5-6i now. Its one of my goal to house a communal setup of adults in the same enclosure. Probably testing out 5 pairs in the future | |
