| I just got what I thought was a male emp. He is the a little bit bigger than my female but his pedipalps are almost double the size. I also noted that he has fairly large pectines compared to the other female at Petco and the one I have with rather large teeth. The question is how do I get him out of his hide to take pictures of him so you guys can verify his sex. I have tried simulating a cricket but that only gets him half way out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Ohh and how long have you guys had to wait to witness mating in this species after introduction?

| Hmm . . . if you can poke a chopstick down there, he might come charging out with palps bared. (Or he might dig further in.) The only other thing I can think of, and what I usually do, is to just remove the hide.
I've noticed (a bit from experience, a bit from reading others' experiences) that emps seem to mate readily if they've been separate for a while. So, a newly introduced one should want to breed (unless he has to be on his own for a while, not just separated from your female(s)).

| I dont know if my male mated with my female and if they did they were in the same tank at the shop and just moved in together and if it happened, it happened. Getting my scorpies out from their hides *adults as babies are under ground* We would just remove the hide and as a bad a method it is, we found tailing with tongs quicker and easier then trying to lure into a cup/container as the other would be giving the attack a go! xxxxxx | |

| the problem is their hides are sort of burrows and they go almost 8 inches under the substrate. I would demolish all of their work if I did that. | |
