| Last week I purchased my first Emperor Scorpion.
I have a heating pad to the side of the terrarium but that only kept the temperature at 70 F. I put a heat lamp in for daytime and that brought it up to 80.
At night, when I turn the lamp off, the temperature returns to 70 and I feel that the scorpion is too cold.
He is very sluggish when he moves, has not eaten since I brought him home and (by my observation) has only made half-hearted attempts to burrow. Note, he is not dragging his tail.
Any suggestions to better keep the terrarium warm(er)?

| do you have a lid?
I have a partial lid ( covers about 7/8 ) and that seems to keep the moisture and heat in the good zone. Every other day i lift it a little to let it vent for a day.

| If you dont have a lid, you can always do what other people do and place a damp towl over most of it and leave a little bit open. That keeps the moisture in and keeps the humidity set well. And if your temperature says that its 70 inside, it may be hotter than it looks cause the heat pads dont heat up the entire cage unless you have a big one. | |

| i have a fully enclosed tank with small 2.5 cm vents each side, i have also a 50w IR lamp which is connected to a thermostat so i get a constant 78 degrees in there, and always 80% humidity.i found i could not get much out of mats which is why ive gone the route i have. | |

i usually keep my room warm cause i like warmer temperatures (guess thats why i love Florida so much)
but i dont run lights or heat mats and my tank always has a warm atmosphere when i reach my hand in to put water in or to add/remove something...
ive just wondeed this cause everyone has heating issues...

| that would be me. people often use the towl technique when there trying to give humidity to reptiles. ive never used it for my scorpions cause my setup has an awesome lid but it would do more than nothing.
p.s. does anyone know where the moderators are all at?

| lol i wish the people at the pet store could have helped me out any bit... all they can do is order the scorpion and receive it... when i went in about 2 weeks ago, they had an emp in one of those exo terra terrariums fillled with sand and a hide that was impossibly small for it...
i talked to the owner and told him id buy scorpions from him, but only if he made the right accomodations. i went back yesterday to get crickets, and they put it in a tank, with coco fiber and a much bigger hide.
the girl behind the counter said it was all because of me coming in and saying stuff about it... i also handled the scorpion too and i was a little worried about why it looked like the tail was peeling these whitish layers?

That's what I've been wondering. I know that Connie is busy preparing for her baby. I don't know what Brandon is up to. Mike, I assume is busy with work I've seen Eddy on occasionally recently. (This is where they all post one after another saying that they've been here the whole time )

| Ok guys, He was asking about HEAT, not humidity 70 at night is fine. The lamp on in the day is also fine. Not all emps will burrow every time. And yes, I have been quite busy with work. Since I'm not eligible for overtime I sometimes have to endure late nights at work without the benefits of extra $$$. But that's for another thread . . . | |

| hi i live in canada and my room is also in the basement so it gets fairly cold in my room. usually i dont keep the heating vents open because i find that it gets too hot but its kinda hard for me to keep a constant temperature of 80F.. it usually only goes up to 75F? my tank has a screen lid, is there anything i can do to keep the temperature up? i dont think it should be a permanent solution cause my room does get pretty hot in the summer time. i was thinking about covering half of my screen lid with something and putting the heating lamp on the other half... | |

| well how much of the lid do u cover with saran wrap? and wouldnt the heat lamp melt the saran wrap onto the lid? i know u still need to give them enough air circulation even if ur trying to keep the humidity up.. | |

| i have my tanks covered up about...8/10ths with saran wrap... idk about the lamps, i dont have to use the lamps...
but on my main tank, i have a false bottom setup, so it helps alot with my humidity... since i did the false bottom and saran wrap the lid, my humidity stays at a constant 82-84.. gimme a minute to remember where my cam is and ill take pics of mine to show you

if it does suddenly decide to burrow, ill change it up and add more strate to it...but till than ill just leave him be...
