Males have larger pectines and larger pectine teeth, and the genital operculum is more oval in shape.
Females have smaller pectines and smaller pectine teeth, and the genital operculum is slightly pointed towards the metasoma.
Note: the female pictured here was in poor health so the operculum does not stand out with as much contrast as the male's does.

I think that MAY be what mine is, a 3i. The mesosoma is roughly 1 1/2" - 2". I have no clue on the instar..
It's been around 6 months since I've gotten him/her and hasn't molted yet..

Is this a male or a female? The pectine teeth aren't that long...
Do you think it's an adult?
Here's the pic from when I got "him":

Definitely female. Notice how the genital operculum has a slight point towards the tail-end of the scorpion.
Not sure on adult . . . that telson's borderline between "cream" and "brown." My guess is adult and that the flash kind of washed out the color.

I guess so.. I was just really hoping to have a male and a female pair. For $10/ea. I suppose I can't really complain. That fem looks a bit bulgy in that pic, don't you think?

Don't forget it has to molt still. So fattening would just be preparation for a molt. And I guess it is a female :p

They don't eat when they're coming up to a molt, right? She just ate yesterday; gobbled a cricket down.
I have a juvi emp that's possibly a male. Do you think that it could be sexed at this size? https://2img.net/r/ihimizer/img292/691/spotonspikeae1.jpg
That image was in a thread that I was asking about what the spot was where the arrow is pointing.

They dont eat before a moult...not normally. but there is coming up for a moult and then there are the real few days before the moult comes....

have you tried counting the pectine or i mean the hairs? normaly female has fewer hairs than mail and male has a longer pectine also so its easier really if you id your pet if its in adult age. but just to tell you what a nice scorp you have there! keep it up

You can sex an emp at basically any age as long as you can get a good shot at the pectines, as has been stated before.
