| Hi, im new to this fourm and have a few questions about my emperor scorpion. First, do any of yours try to climb the walls of their tank at night? mine does this all the time and after a while he just sits proped up against the side of the tank for a while. i don't know if this is normal or if it needs more room? when i got it i did a ton of research and found a 10 gallon tank would be plenty of room for one. second im not sure what sex it is so i took plenty of pic while it was trying to climb the glass walls. also ive tried to get a good shot of it flat so someone could possibly gauge how far it is from molting ive noticed more color in his armor and the gaps between the plates getting larger, im afraid of it dying durring molt and spray the tank twice a day to keep the humidity between 60-80, i read that is what kills them the most often. https://i.servimg.com/u/f77/13/37/77/07/pictur13.jpg https://i.servimg.com/u/f77/13/37/77/07/pictur14.jpg https://i.servimg.com/u/f77/13/37/77/07/pictur15.jpg | |

| bit blurry but I would say male! Need a better pic to be honest.
A moult COULD very well be on the way...since this happens until maturity.
My 4i's look ready to moult but they havent. Feeding helps but if they are currently fasting they wont grow which means you have to wait a bit longer. These things cant really be timed. Just carry on keeping it nice and humid, offer food weekly and just wait it out.

| i agree.. looks very dry and need more coco fiber. trying to climb the walls is normal. mine did it off and on for the first month i had her. since i put i nice cave in for her to burrow under. ive only seen her once since then and it was for about 10 seconds! add some more substrate and get it nice and wet. | |

| far to dry, the substate should be at least a little moist, the scorpions are found in very humid enviroments. also add a little bit more substrate, there should be a good 4-6" to allow him to burrow. once he has made a burrow he will probably not climb the sides as much. | |

| Moisten it up and add about two or three inches more to what you have in there. How long have you had it? It could be just new to the environment so its searching about. Also could be that there isn't enough humidity in the enclosure and by judging from your pics it Look ready to mold so it could be searching for a more humid place to do it. | |

| I agree with: -- Male -- Needs more substrate -- Needs more humidity (just dump some water on the substrate -- misting does almost nothing)
As for molting, I'd need to see a pic of the telson with better lighting to say if it's an adult or not.

| Thanks for all the responses, i know the substrate doesnt look too deep in the pictue but ive got it graded so its deeper in the center where the large piece of wood is, his burrow is under that. i ran out of eco earth the last time i cleaned his tank so i had to make do. allthough he sholved most of it out the two days after. ive had him for at least 6 months now. also scorpio is right, the flash is what makes it look so dry in that one picture and i took all of the other shots last night before i sprayed his tank down so i could see through the sides clearly, but ill try to keep it more humid i | |
