Shaky emperor

Man, it's like my third new post in like two days.... This time, one of my emperors (unsexed, both have the same pectines, can`t compare with opposite sex) shakes when next to the other one. Does it mean something. Does it want to mate?? I heard that when it's too hot their tail twitches, but it's not that, it's the whole body. Man they can be weird.

my male does it to my females, but before i had gotten a male my females just did the first initial "battle" for dominance. the best way for us to determine anything would be a picture of each scorps pectines. because it sounds to me like you have yourself a male trying to "excite" a female.

Yes, it sounds like your scorp is lookin' for some lovin', this is called "juddering", I also think it has other uses apart from mating, I have witnessed it happening in younger instars as well. I think it's a kinda' dominance thing.




And yes, they are very wierd lol.

For the sexing of my scorpions, it will be done sometime this week, I have to go where i bought them, I'm planning on going to get another of the opposite sex, and at the same time they would sex mines. I saw a couple of pictures that show the compararison between the both sexes, and still I'm unsure. It might be a dominance thing right now, no risks for cannibalism or them killing each other?? They don't seem hostile to each other.

nah, They'll probably be fine, just make sure there is one or more hides per individual.

as for the sexing, we could easily do it for you. judging by the state of the setup the scorps were kept in at the shop, they probably don't know much about sexing. just get an underside shot of each scorp's pectines, easy as that.

notice how the female's pectinal teeth are shorter in length, and how the genital operculum on the male is more "football" (american football) shaped than the females. the females operculum is more of a heart shape. (the genital operculum is the bit where the pectines are attached. and overall, the female is "bulkier" than the male.

That's the picture a looked at for I don't know how long. If I had one of the opposite sex to compare side by side, it would be that difficult. I'll try again later today. To tell you the truth, when I bought them initially, I never asked them about their sex.

Weird, the 2nd link, the pictures look so alike, almost like if they were photoshoped. In your first link, the difference is clear. The females genital operculum isn't split in the middle??

lol, the 2nd has been photoshopped, I just put it up so you could see what the operculum looks like, if you didn't already know. that isn't an Emps pectines or operculum.


oh, almost forgot, look in the "sexing different scorpion species" section, mike did one on heterometrus and pandinus species.

Finally I have 2 females, I went to get a male tanzanian red claw today and saw the difference in the pectines. Pectinal teeth on male are really big.
