| I just recently got my first emperor and for awhile he was happy and active but now he isn't moving. He doesn't hold up his tail and barely responds to touching. He is also a bit discolored from pictures I've seen of other emperor's. Could someone tell me what could be wrong with him? [img] [/img] [img] [/img] | |

He died a few hours after I took the pictures... I bought him from a local pet store, and they get there scorpions from a breeder in Florida. I have his number and E-mail, and I'm going to contact him to see if he knows what's up. I really don't understand what I did wrong (if anything, as you said it could of been an internal parasite). He was provided water at all times...I changed it (up to) twice daily...I used Flukers Cricket Quencher Original Formula (what the pet store used). His tank was always clean...now that I think about it, in the two months that I had him I never saw him poo (could it be impaction?). I only saw a couple of cricket carcasses in his burrow...so he did eat but very little. He was extremely active, moving around dirt and the such...up until the first time I changed his cage. I changed his cage from a pre-made "safe" foam burrow structure...kind of like an ant farm but bigger, to another pre-made "safe" foam structure, but with more places to burrow and hide (I applied things like moss and soil for him to dig up). So after the "change" he started to exhibit weird behaviors like sitting in his water bowl all hunched over...stumbling around...and even falling down into his burrows...he wouldn't even make burrows anymore. His heat source was a red "heat" lamp. The temp on the hot side was 82-85F, while the cool side was room temp, at 72F. The humidity in the cage was 70-75%, and to keep it up I "misted" him twice daily. I tried feeding him different insects...crickets, several different sizes of meal worms...even wax worms. He ate neither of the three...all he did was put up his claws to shield his face when one came near or when I tried to "hand" feed him. It wasn't too long after that that he became stiff...tucked his legs under...then died. Thanks for your help!! RIP little scorpion

The pet store gave us the wrong number and breeder...as far as I know. They gave us the number and E-mail to Exotic Jungle...and from what I can see on the website they do not sell scorpions. They must get their reptiles from there...so I'll go back to the store tomorrow to ask again.
