| Here she is then, my beautiful Emperor I`d be very interested to hear if any of you think she might be pregnant. I`ll be looking for a male once I`m happy she`s settles in ok anyway but if you think she looks pregnant already, all the better! I haven`t thought of a name for her yet, I`m sure i`ll think of something... I bought her a new good sized tank today with enough room for a male when I can find one large enough..... So what do you think? Does she look pregnant to you? Or could she just be a little fat? | |

| Yes that is moss. I made a temporary environment for her so she had something better than the postal package to be in while I sorted her permenant tank out. I`ve just taken some pictures of her permenant home actually, I`m just about to post them I`m using large grade Vermiculite mixed with Coir. I used a whole bag of Vermiculite and a whole brick of Coir. It`s water holding capacity is really impressive! I put a good two or more litres on it and there still wasn`t ANY water to be seen! | |

| Here we go.... I`ve put a few hides in there, one of them quite a cool double room one lol I used a take away food tub with two compartments and cut large holes in the front of each bit. Then burried it leaving just the holes showing. I`ve learned from years of snake keeping that "Double security hides" as I call them, can perform miracles on an unhappy snake. It`s basically what i`ve done here. A hide, half buried and most importantly, with the entrance hidden out of sight. I covered the entrance to the double room scorp hide with a nice bit of cork bark. This way she can be in a few different stages of hidden. Right inside, half out of the hide but still out of sight completely or half out of cover Hopefully she`ll be happy with my building. I have a second hide consisting of half a coconut with a mouse hole cut in the front, buried and again, just the entrance showing. I figured I`d leave her to dig any other hides/burrows she wants. I expect her to dig under the water dish because that`d provide a stable roof...... | |

| burrowing under the water dish is fairly common alrite. i usually sit my dishes on a wide buried stone so that they cant burrow under it so its east to lift out without disturbing the scorp too much | |

| Yeah i`ve thought about that. I plan to refill the water dish rather than take it out. As soon as I feel it wants cleaning and disinfecting, I`ll be watching for when I KNOW there`s no scorpion under the dish, then I`ll take it out. I don`t fancy getting stung! lol I`ve just gone and had a look to see how she`s getting on and I was pleased to see she`s in her double apartment hide lol Bless her she lookes like she was having a bit of a dig in there too. Im using my red head torchwhen I go in to look at her. I want to see her carrying on as normal if I can help it. I don`t want to disturb her. I want to see her doing what scorpions do and I just did That tank looks fab and I think she agrees luckily. Sweet | |

blood red ball on the telson is usually a healthy indicator of adulthood in emperors Her telson does look very simular to our adult male but was sold to us as a sub adult (possibly wrongly i guess) by virginia cheeseman. And she does seem to be geting bigger slowely could this just be last moult though? Also they have started to act a little strangly where they used to both share a hide/burrow no our male seems to be always outside as if he is guarding it and she comes out in the evening (well sort of half out lol) he then moves so he is possitioned above the hole she is poking out of and kinda rests hthe tip of his pedipalp just on her on her as if he is guarding her. | |

| I got her from Virginia Cheeseman Such a great name that isn`t it lol I`ve just spoken to her actually and she`s confirm that mine is a sub adult female who WAS kept in a colony. She may well be gravid then I`m going to order a male soon I think..... | |

| Yeeeeah we`ll see... She was sold as sub adult/adult. Someone pointed out earlier that a red stinger is a sign of adulthood also. That and it was confirmed to me earlier that she was indeed kept as part of a colony so she may well be gravid. She certainly does look a bit fat! | |

| Here`s a question... She`s not really interested in eating at all. She`s just looking a bit irritated when I tong a food item near her, obviously I`ve not pushed the matter. I`ve read that it`s normal for scorpions to not eat for a while here and there but what sorts of time scales are we talking here? Is it normal to go off food for a month? Or longer? I`d just like an idea of what`s normal...... | |

| They can go without food for months i really wouldnt worry to much if she is sub adult and moulting she wont eat either (hopefully gravid though a!) our male hasnt eaten for weeks...some scorps like our euscorpius flavicaudis has an ncredibly low metabolic rate, and can live on only four or five catches a year! | |
