I Hate It When My Scorpions Ruin My Plan For The Week!

I have a blacklight tube that i got off 'flee-bay' that comes in handy for tracking down scorpions. but im gunna get a torch as well... lee at spidershop started doing them

Lol u all really afraid of stressing them
When my previous scorpion was gravid (Which i didn't know it) i used to disturb her everyday with tweezer
(Ya, I'm a retard back then, i didn't know it will stress them)
But she still successfully gave birth to 32 scorpling without anyone being eaten
I feed her with a cricket to avoid this too

*I'm not encouraging newbie to disturb their scorpion, but what i mean was, i think its ok if it's necessary to rehouse her*

Im not saying rehoming is going to stress the mother.
I just want to take them from mother so I know their numbers and also to prevent any feeding...but im not sure if feeding of the young has been going on, I doubt it because she has been fantastic...why wouldnt she...she is their mother after all.

I just want to know numbers and also to put her back in with her partner who is all "alone" in another tank.

But over 6 weeks in with mum and so far, it SEEMS good

well it's been good going for ya.

To be perfectly honest if ya scorpions are used to you popping in to have a closer look, have people walking around and the occasional knock to their enclosure (as happens when you have kiddies) They make for better pets. less stresses them out.

I suppose its personal preference really.

This was about hahaha, nearly 8 weeks ago or so!

and this was taken...erm.....two weeks a go or so....kept it big so you can see. In pic there are some more to the left out of shot and more out of shot upside down on the cork bark. I still havent done a count as to how many there are. Last week at feeding time mum was VERY hungry! one cricket in mouth and one in each chela. They have had another feed. infact about 3 feeds a week near enough to make sure all are happy. all crickets get eaten. a few hours ago 8 thrown in and only 2 are walking about alive hahahaha
Substrate LOOKS dry in the pic but its not. always kept damp and nice and humid in there

All still in together, all seem happy and healthy!!!

But the change from the pic taking about 2-3...maybe 4 weeks ago is that they are all a bit bigger...mainly plump and I expect moulting to 3I will begin soon

hehehehe. I have enough pictures, although not half as many with this brood because they are still with mum and she is their great defender!
Ha, as long as she hasnt eaten any of them...which I highly doubt since she is so protective of them!

Watching her feed them was GREAT! I wish I had had a video camera! it was lovely to see.

Are you able to see by that pic if she is a heterometrus laoticus. She and the other are said to be from vietnam.
Little to basically no granulation on the chela. basically none on any part of this scorpion nor on the other and black telsons. I WILL get more detailed shots...I keep forgetting. I know im a bad grrrl!

I will try to measure her, since she is bigger then the other scorpion that they are both meant to be...you know...the same hahahaha

Probably an H. laoticus, from the granulation you describe.

I hope so because that is what I wanted.

hehehe Venom I dont think the little one was. it began exploring and then began to freak out when the hide was lifted. But you could be right. the little one could be drinking from the side.
I just love how she ran over to her young...some were already on the cork that we had tilted up but and some ran to her for protection. She is still 8 weeks on protecting her young. its adorable

My mordax are a month older and only just started.

they are still sheltering under mum. So even though they are or turning into 3I she is still the one they run to when the cork bark is lifted

ok. 32 scorplings!
Took mum out and into new tank and tried to house the other adult female with her (like they were before) but such a HUGE size difference, a fight broke out. I didnt want to risk it. Put babies back in with mum in new tank. I have FAITH that she wont attack them the same...but she SHOULD know they are still her young as only apart at most 15 minutes!

One has died though a bad moult. That was the smallest of the lot anyways. I expected that to be honest
