(INSERT EXTREME SWEAR WORD HERE)!!!! my first scorp died....

one of my first scorps (scorpio was the first) is dead. found her upside down
damn!!!
and she was gravid....

claws....

anyone know how to preserve a scorp???

I'm pretty sure you can put them in alcohol. Not sure though.
I've seen someone put a parted scorpion in a jar and fill it up with alcohol.

(NOT THE ALCOHOL YOU DRINK, THE KIND YOU CLEAN CUTS WITH)

If she was gravid and dead, I don't think I could resist the temptation to cut her open and see what's going on with the babies. Hell, maybe you can save them. If you do...make sure to take pics.

she still has atleast like 4 months of gravidness left and has been dead all day...
pretty sure there is no hope... unless she does that wierd resurection thing that they sometimes do.

Until you learn how to preserve, put into a bag and put in the freezer. It probably was old age that took her life.
do you know 100% she was gravid?

yea...she was definately gravid...put her on a diet for 3 weeks and she got massive!!
it was most likely old age...she has been dragging herself around all week...

thats ashame jordan. there are a few ways to preserve a scorpion, the simplest being chucking it in the freezer, or you could put it in a jar of concentrated alchohol, but this causes colour to fade. check out ladyriots thread for a better method.

OMG!!!! WHATS GOING ON!!! i was just about to chuck her in the freezer and she curled hur tail up!!!!!???? she cant be shedding because they dont shed upside down!!!

just gave her a poke and she can move her tail and her 2 front legs!!
is this just some wierd scorpion thing or some kind of paralysis without a spine..??that cant work?!?!? im so confused

hmmm...... mabye she is shedding..... or mabye its that weired reserection thing thay they sometimes do.

She's probably on her way out. Watch her for another day or so just to be sure, and then put her in the freezer.

Check out the tutorials / guides section -- LadyRiotControl posted a guide on how she preserves her scorpions.

As for me, I soak them in acetone for a few days (after posing them) and then let the specimen air-dry for several more days. It smells kinda weird but makes for a good display when put in a box or something -- much nicer than jar o' scorp if you were to put her in alcohol.

If you use this method with colored scorpions (i.e., not solid black), boil them for a minute or two to "fix" the proteins in the exoskeleton. That should preserve some of the color.

Proably last breath.. just stick her back in the cage see what happens... wait untill tomorrow then she proably will be fully gone.. or stick her in the freezer now...

she could only hold her tail up this morning and now (4:00pm here) she is completely dead...100%....

acetone is the main chemical in nail varnish remover as far as i know lol

im going to get a sub-adult female to go with my sub-adult male...

I know an entomologist who recommended it because it's what dragonfly people use when they preserve their specimens. It dries them out without killing the color.
