| This is a bit late, but this was literally within seconds of introducing them to the enclosure. Unfortunately the mating was interrupted by me clumsily putting the lid back on. I suspect that they've mated by this point, although I still haven't found any spermatophores.

| nice. i'm sure you'll have some good luck with them when i purposely mated my death stalkers, i didn't put the lid back on until they were finished. pesky lids can ruin the best moments sometimes | |

I wouldn't mind some for myself as well, but always remember to keep at least 6-12 back as you never know if they will produce a second group of offspring for you. A good number of species are lost in the hobby by people who know how to breed not keeping hold-backs and considering how rare these guys are in the hobby, you may be the sole producer of this species. Good luck and congrats!

I agree we should create some sort of breeders club where we can create a list of people who have successfully produced for the hobby and they should get first consideration on rare species...unrealistic I know but still would be nice.

Actually, we should do that. I mean, I'm not exactly "breeder" status, but I'm producing babies, and I have plenty of breeding pairs. I think it's a good idea.

| The only reason I would be against that is because I would then be afraid of all the good scorpions being taken before I could get them. But then again, I'd have to go through my parents first and that would usually not happen. | |

| Or maybe a breeders network where we can trade species amongs ourselves instead of selling. Of course you can still freely charge non-members. It's a good idea on paper but not in action.

| I love these things! I'm so used to the C. vits that we have around here that seeing like the exact same body shape, but black instead of striped is beautiful to me. Lol. Please, please, please keep us informed on the status of this brood. I would really like to get some once I get into my bigger space and start my big bark scorpion enclosure. | |

Good luck and congrats! I'll be sure to send a couple to you guys when she pops. And yes, I plan on keeping about half of them and perhaps donating some to Cornell's entomology department. - bjaeger wrote:

when i purposely mated my death stalkers, i didn't put the lid back on until they were finished. pesky lids can ruin the best moments sometimes It probably wouldn't have disturbed them too much if I hadn't clumsily smacked the lid into the side of the tank in the process of putting it on though. At the moment I was also frantically scrambling for extra containers for the six surprise scorpions Vixvy sent me. (Three A. bicolor and three H. hottentotta.) I barely had time to even snap a few pics. Here's a couple more pics from the same time:

| Here's an update for you guys.
Just walked back into my room a few minutes ago and witnessed what appeared to be a successful mating! I can't get a pic at the moment as it's 4:00 in the morning, but there's a spermatophore on the piece of driftwood.

| Haha, tell me about it.
Oh, just a fair warning guys, when she does finally have them, I'll probably have to wait for a "warm" snap before shipping any of them. NY winters can be brutal, and I don't like the idea of shipping when it's approximately 4 degrees out.

| I definitely agree that I'll be sending them to people who have the intention of breeding them. Heck, I may even give some to Cornell. Perhaps not any from this brood, but from future ones if all goes well. Eddy, might have to take you up on that when the time comes. | |

| It's always nice to see people making a conscious effort to breed scorpions rather than just keeping them for amusement. Great work thus far, my friend. If you need any tips or want to be bombarded by leading questions and conceptual tid bits, shoot me a pm and I would be willing to shoot you any tips that I've accumulated over the years. Best of luck to you! | |
