| At what instar can you safely sex a P trans and be correct in the assumption that youve got a male or female? This one is 5i and I was totally told it was male, but...... I think she was tricking someone. | |

| Usually sexual dimorphism is present in most scorpions at the second-to-last instar, as far as I know.

| This species can be sexed from 2i. Joey - **GS** wrote:

Purpose: Sexing via pectine, the presence of "knobs (basal middle lamella)" near the area where the two pectine meets, signifies a female. Males do not have these "knobs"

| Easy peasy. The deli cup/paint brush idea will work great. Also look at the chelae. The males are rounder... more bulbous. The females are narrower. From the pic you posted on the first pic, that looks female. That particular dimorphic trait may only be on adults/sub-adults. I'm not sure, though. | |

| And with flipping the scorpion once it's in the deli cup... Get a soft paper towelish kinda thing... like one of the blue shop towels. Crumple it and gently place it over the scorpion and push it down. Of course, don't push too hard... You don't want to hurt the scorp... But after doing that, you have it immobilized and you can inspect as much as you want. The hardest part is knowing your strength right there. No "Of Mice and Men" action. Lol. | |
