While in Portugal I found a colony of very large scorpions - I assume they were a large race of B occitanus.
Stupidly, I picked one up by the tail (I didn't realise they could actually rotate the sting!), and it pushed its sting into my thumb.
First it was like a mild wasp sting, but increased gradually until it was a severe throbbing pain (as if I'd hit my thumb very hard with a hammer).
It was a cool day - if the scorpion had been less lethargic it could have been much worse I suppose.

I love Buthus!!

Where abouts in Portugal were you? I found quite a lot of Buthus ibericus last year on the coast near Sagres.

They were a lot bigger than I expected them to be, and are some of the most aggressive/defensive scorpions I've ever come across. I kept my hands well away lol.
