| Hey 'errybody. Im currently enjoying my first Emperor scorpion. He seems quite content in his new home, tunneling and hiding in his...ur...hide.
I was just wondering if you think they ever get bored though? Has anyone every given them a sort of toy they might enjoy other then food??
I just want my little guy to be happy and not bored. Thanks for the tips.

| Sensory= response. That pretty much covers the complexity of their psyche, which doesn't necessarily need to be stimulated without a purpose, such as ours or cats. Boredom doesn't really exist within the mind of a scorpion. In fact, they prefer boredom and see the safety that a lack of sensory response brings to them. Think of it as scorpions love to meditate... | |

I think he/she is happy with just the above Off-topic alittle, i know little hedgehogs needs some toys (e.g. emptied toilet rolls) to keep them entertained.. but scorpions.. they'll be most delighted if they do not need to keep us(keepers) entertained.. In short, scorpions does not need to be "made happy" with any "toy". So to speak. As long as the proper captive husbandry has been met. They'll grow/stay just fine. I can sense your eagerness to have a "happy" scorpion, It'll be good if you can replicate her captive enclosure as naturalistic as possible

Let's not forget a hedgehog is still a mammal. IMO, only mammals would need some "entertainement" while inverts and herps are get the only needed entertainment (actually more close to self-survival instict) and exercise from the food they hunt down.

| @Envyizm: Thank you, thats a really great way of putting things!
@GS: By "captive husbandry" do you mean I should get it a mate? I have a 10 gallon tank, and Im not sure if Im ready for two, but if you think they are happier with one, I will certainly consider it.
Thanks for all the great advice so far everybody!

My apologies, what i'm trying to say is, what's important is providing the "right" husbandry conditions for the scorpion in captivity Check this out if you have not: [ASA] Forest Scorpions' CaresheetAs for getting a mate for your scorpion, if you are not sure, most likely you'll be more comfortable by handling only one specimen now. Once you have gained the confidence required, you would get additions without any questions asked. Of course, get those non-medically significant ones as starters.
