i dont kno if this is normal for tarantulas or becuase its in a new tank ....

i got my first tarantula yesterday, its a medium size rose hair.... it crawled across the tank once but its been sitting on top of its cave for over 20 hours, it turned around and faced the other direction a few times, but thats it. and i tryed to offer it a superworm and it showed me its fangs and refused the superworm..... i thought the tarantula would have explored its new tank by now but its just been sitting on top of its cage pretty much since the time i put it in its tank. should i be worried about it ?????

it has been in petco for atleast six months, everytime i went into petco i checked to see if it was still there, and they only had it in a half inch of cocofiber substrate, maybe it forgot how to dig a hole?? or maybe its truamatized from being in petco so long ???

Nope, it's fine. They really don't move much. Sometimes they are referred to as "pet rocks" because of this trait. It might walk around a little late at night though. Also, they usually don't burrow in captivity. I'd only try to feed it every two weeks, they are famous for fasting. Heck, there are some reports of G. rosea going over two years without food.

I highly recommend that you purchase the book "The Tarantula Keeper's Guide" by Stanley A. Schultz and Marguerite J. Schultz. (2009 revised edition.) It's the best (in my opinion) tarantula book out there.

alright thanks, thats a relief i thought it was sick or something, i thought it was odd that it is sitting rite out in the open, it has a cave, last night it didnt move i woke up almost every hour or two cuase i couldnt sleep and i shined my cell phone light in there and it didnt moveall night. i really dont know much about tarantulas the most i read was a care sheet and i watched a few videos on youtube.... im definetly going to order that book tomorow or the next day becuase i plan on haveing the tarantula for a long time i need to learn more about them.... i dont know how many crickets to feed it either , i was thinking 4 or 5 every 2 weeksor every 10 days, how long should i leave the crickets in there before i take them out ? 2 days?? do u know how often they molt ?

Just try feeding it once or twice every 10-14 days. Don't be surprised if it refuses food. How often they molt depends on the age of the tarantula. Adult females (males don't molt after they mature) seem to molt about once a year, although this can vary between individuals.
That caresheet should answer most if not all of your questions.

One cricket once a week should be fine. They dont move around a lot and will refuse food for a while sometimes, you got the emp of the Tarantula world
