| im looking to add a few scorpions to my collection in the near future... but im haveing a hard time finding one that i want becuase all the rainforest species look alike... like asian forest, emperor ect. ..... and they all seem to be black. but there has to be an exeption somehow.... im looking for a rainforest species that has small pincers, and possibly a different color then black, if there all black then id like to find one that has smaller pincers , and one that is an aggressive feeder and actually uses its stinger when it catches its prey.... emps dont use there stinger.
anybody out there know of any rainforest scorpions that match the discription ?????
the reason i need a rainforest species is becuase of the humidity levels where i live, they go above 60 sometimes....

| i think a might of found something.... any body know any thing about humidity levels for rusty thick tail scorpions ??
i found this online ....
The enclosure used to house this species should contain around 2-3 in. (5-7.5cm) of peat moss. Since Babycurus jacksoni require a moderate amount of humidity, the peat moss on one half of the enclosure should be kept moist. The temperature should be maintained around 75-90°F (24-32°C).
is 60-65% humidity considered moderate humidity ??? cuase thats the highest i seen my humiidty without any misting.

| Hey mate.
What's your experience with scorps? It sounds like you're looking for some type of "bark scorpion" and some of those are quite potent.
Anyway, Centruroides gracilis is a nice species. You may also look into other Centruroides species if you wish.
Pretty much all members of the genus Tityus fit the description of what you want as well. However, Tityus sp have quite potent venom, and are not recommended for beginners.
The "rusty thick tail scorpion" is known as Babycurus jacksoni, this scorpion is an option for you as well.
Another option is Lychas mucronatus, this species is rather hard to get in the US, but I might be able to direct you to someone who can ship them to you. (Send me a PM if you want this species.)

| I wouldent recommend getting Androtonus they are very nasty little things that love to kill anything, very dangerous in my opinion. | |

| No, they are desert species.
And they are some of the most venomous scorpions. The scorpion Androctonus australis kills more people every year than any other scorpion. It's name literally translates to "southern man killer."
Thus they are completely unsuitable for a beginner.
I advise you to take a look through the "caresheets" and "[ASA] All Scorpion Archives" section of the forum.

| It's probably lower in your house, and once you put a IR heat lamp on the tank, it will be lower anyway. Hadrurus, Hadogenes, and Smeringus are some good beginner desert species.
The final choice is yours, but please, stick to "beginner" species until you gain more experience.

| yeah i got directed to emps which i have.... then i got directed to desert hairy scorpions but i thought they were communal?? desert hairy scorpions arent communal ???? i have two tanks i need to put scorpions in... one is a 29g L wich i know i will need a cummunal species for and then i have a 10 gallon wich i want to put a yellow fat tail in.....that leads me back to the rusty thick tail scorpion which i could put 5 or so in the 29g L tank and the yellow fat tail in the 10 gallon but i dont know if its a good idea for me to get a yellow fat tail, but i think i could becuase i already know i cant touch it. | |

| No, Hadrurus (desert hairy) are known to be cannibalistic. I wouldn't get a Androctonus yet if I were you. Get a couple more species first, then move on to the "advanced species." As for the B. jacksoni, go for it, they are also communal as adults. Personally, if I were you, I'd get some Lychas mucronatus. Information on them is available here: [ASA] Lychas mucronatus | |
