| Ok two weeks ago we got a Brachypelma Emilia (was sold as a bohemi). Was told said tarantula was a year old. Now the B.Emilia is about...urm....3 inches including legs. Yesterday we bought a Brachypelma Albopilosum....been told this little one is a year old. Now im confused. The Emilia is meant to be a year old and is about 3 inches with legs and the B Albo is a year and small enough to fit into a coke bottle lid... ........is this correct? I will this weekend take pictures of the b. Albo to confirm it is actually what it was sold as! This shop drives me mad! Another Emilia being sold as Bohemi and Im telling the guy its WRONG and hes looking at me and thinking "silly girl" GRRR xxxxxxxxx | |

| A little humidity won't hurt -- ask the "true" tarantula folks for help on that, though (I speak from only limited experience).
It's entirely possible for it to be that old and that small -- brachys grow VERY slowly.

| Hmm . . . perhaps the B. emilia is older.
But I confirmed the age of the B. albo with someone -- they have a rosehair only slightly larger than you describe that they've had since 2006.

| The B. Albo will fit into a coke bottle lid. But just barely. So you can tell how small. Its not even furry yet! only a small section on the "bum" is black and orange. I will get a camera soon for you guys to see! The Emilia MUST be older! But the shop doesnt have a clue since they were selling it as something different and you guys ID'ed the young one. I hate being unsure about something xxxxx | |

| This isn't something I'll say often, but maybe you should ask over on AB -- there's a lot more people there who know their tarantulas. If you can get a shot of the emilia next to something as a size reference and ask them how far off the shop was with their 1 year estimate, they might be able to help you out. | |

| i think with Ts the conditions they are kept in affect there growth so they could both be the same age but one was kept at high temps and power fed and so he grew quicker and will live a little less overall and the other kept in normal conditions grow slowly and mature later etc i think you get my point hehehe | |

| I didn't even think of that, Umar -- that's a good point. I've heard of some people powerfeeding to get things to grow bigger so they can sell them faster for more $$$ (or in Connie's case, £££). | |

| Brachypelmas are generally very slow growers and the guy sold the bigger spider as something it is not so,therefore; my guess is it is much older than what they said it is and the second spider could also be older. That said, size and age don't really coorilate with each other in spiders.Size is mainly dependent on diet and temperature among other things....but not age. | |

| my constant moaning to shop about the emilia not being a bohemi has FINALLY made them change the name on the tank *smiles* See, it pays to moan and complain! Been told basically they dont know age of Emilia *why tell me a year then* and convinced the Albo is a year... I do have the camera and will still take pics... | |
