MOLD in My tank ! Empty
PostSubject: MOLD in My tank !   MOLD in My tank ! Empty2/29/2012, 12:36 am

I was just takin a look in there, My tank is about 2 and a half weeks old, mabey three. For terrain I have coconut husk, mixed with Exo terra Forrest moss, The mold is about an inch below the surface and is only on one peice I can see. Iv been misting it every day and keeping it moist. Is that normal ? I think I have some starting on my hollow log proped up against the side of the glass aswell. Is there a way to fix this ? did I do somthing wrong ? Could it be an air circulation problem ?

Fungus spores (including mold) are everywhere. At certain times of the year they're thick in the air..other times they're not .. but they're almost always there......eventually some of them get lucky by living long enough to land somewhere that offers them both living quarters and environment.

1 inch under the surface of your tank setup seems to have been just the place they were looking for........"why just in this tank though...i've other tanks that are set up using the same materials?"

Micro environmental and nutritional factors are the answer....

I've had T tanks that have occasionally, over the course of 36 hours, developed tank high mushrooms....

If it seems to be developing quickly that'll probably mean the conditions are optimal...Scraping what you can see away and changing one or more of the environmental factors (in the way of slightly less heat and/or slightly less spraying) would probably be a quick fix..
A full clean out with warm wash to boot and fresh substrate being the alternative.

Although...depending on how virulent it seems, it'll probably not do any harm to your Emp considering their natural environment...although if it is quite aggressive you be best of getting rid of it...Mold spores from the mold could potentially block up your scorpions book lungs...
