| The other day after owning my emp for about three months, I was horrified to see her tank was infested with tiny white mites....when I asked the person at the pet store about them, I was told they were "wood mites" and not a problem. Anyway, I changed the substrate just the same, ( the store had set the tank up prior to my purchasing it) they had put some kind of wood chips in the bottom of the tank...this time i went with coconut fiber only (the lady at the pet store told me the mites came form the wood chips) I don't leave old food in the tank and keep it very clean. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and or any thoughts !! By the way...she's doing just fine now........ Time is the best teacher.......unfortunately it kills all of it's students.

| If its easily visble by the naked eye.. E.g you can see white mites crawling in and out of the substrates.. I would say its more of an eyesore to keepers then something that would be harmful to scorps. You can get a decent good read about mites with a search in this forum or on google to get a deeper insight.
Frankly speaking, in the past, i do bother and overhaul the entire substrate but they keep coming back no matter how hard i try. Now, i'll leave things as it is. Unless it is mites of parasite's nature (clingy to scorpion joints)...

| Not harmfull. Actually they will eat leftovers from the scorpions food so its kind of a useful animal IMO. I dont like them tho, because it doesnt look nice. I have like at least 2000 of them in my sun beetle tank. Dont wanna mess around too much in the tank because of the cocoons and eggs so im going to get myself a bunch of pseudoscorpions next spring That will do the trick after a couple of months I think | |

| They don't sound like parasitic mites. I would change the substrate if you get alot of them in your scorps water though. | |

Before further advice /suggestions given... It'll be good to mention what type of mites you are dealing with right now mate. Color? Do the "mites" stick to the joints of your emp or are they seen around the substrate.. crawling in and out and mostly.. near decaying parts from dead preys... | |
