| So im new to the forum. Got my (i believe female) emp maybe 3 - 4 months ago. she eats regularly but looks skinny compared to what ive seen on the forums, and hasnt burrowed since i got her. If she isnt burrowing, should i be concerned? | |

| Hi, First of.. Welcome to the forum Although emps are generally considered "pet hole" but some may be contented with just chilling under a hide. It'll be good if you can post some pics of your setup for comments. Or you may may also mention details like (e.g. Depth of substrate given, temp, humidity, location of your heat pad(if any)) | |

| Welcome to the forum and +1 to what Gs said, we have an emp that has never burrowed until recently when she has babies lol so i wouldnt worry about it unless its lying out in the open tail out flat | |

| thanks for the info. I was expecting my emp to burrow soon after i got it but to this day it still hasnt, even as i post shes laying next to a piece of bark and branches. ill post pics up after class
tank set up:
primary heat source - 75 watt infrared bulb set up on a ceramic heater with a dimmer secondary - heat pad placed under the tank ( I live in canada and our winters are %&$#ing cold) substrate - 3" of eco earth (going to a local pet store to pick up another brick later today, ystd the ran out)
temps in the tank are about 80F on the warm side down to about 72F on the cool side. I have a thermometer on the hot side of the tank and use a meat thermometer to take substrate temps everywhere else in the tank.

| fistly take that heat matt out from under the tank that would explain her not burrowing...scorpions burrow to escape heat! heat matts should be above substrate level on the side of the tank unless you want a steamed scorpion, also need about 4-6" at the very least of substrate, look forward to seeing pics | |

| Pm me the link and I'll post it up if you want.
Bex is right, even if it is a secondary heat source still get the mat on the side/back. I'd get it on the back and plug it in to bump the temps up a bit. Will probably make your scorp more active which will lead to burrowing and eating more food to fatten up.

| My Emp has never burrowed either. Seems to dig a small ditch to sit in but never actually burrows. I assumed it just learnt not to do it since I bought it from a shop and their set up had less than an inch of substrate. Glad mine isn't the only one that doesn't burrow, | |

| Mine didnt burrow until I added about 6-7 inches of substrate. You really do need a lot in there Now thats all they do is make a bunch of crazy burrow, honestly I liked it before when I could actually see them but I know that they are happier doing what they do best | |
