Help! Bad Molt! Empty
PostSubject: Help! Bad Molt!   Help! Bad Molt! Empty8/8/2011, 2:18 am

My H. swammerdami finally molted. But He had a bad molt. 3 of his legs on it's right side were stuck. I got one of it's legs out, but the back two have old exoskeleton stuck to it. Also it's left pedipalp is badly deformed. How can I get the old exoskeleton off it's back legs? And can I do anything about it's pedipalp? Please Help!!!!

wow. that's a tough one. i can say it would be a bad idea to try and subdue it to try and remove it yourself. It could be quite the irritant to it. ive never seen this happen before. maybe the shell will flake off or something. Before my imperator died, it was getting ready to molt and parts of it's exoskeleton were flaking in some spots.

Thanks for replying. It won't flake off. The legs are stuck inside the old ones. The rest of the exoskeleton has been pulled off.

Now guys, really, 24 views and one reply. Some one please help!

Some people may not reply, due to the fact that they have no helpful input. As a previous post said this is a tough one, and not everyone is going to have an answer for you.

As Quin said, its a judgement call only you can make.
I personally would not interfere.. unless it is to put it out of its misery.. sorry to say.

Ofcourse, I say this following your description. If its not as bad as it sounds, sure go ahead.. but it doesnt sound too good.

Pictures might help (only if you dont need to stress it).

I have it in a I.C.U at the moment. The best way you could see the difference would be under the blacklight. My camera has trouble taking blacklight pics. It's not as bad as it was. The pedipalp is starting to look better. His back two legs are still stuck in the molts legs, so it looks like a leg with another leg growing inside it. The rest of the molt is gone. I will try to post pics soon.

Well guys he looks better than he did. But he still does not look normal. When he's out if the ICU, I'm going to "hot box" it to try to get it to molt sooner. (Hopefully it will heal in the next molt) Here are some pics:

Well Bex, it's not as bad as yours. I think it will live, but it might loose it's legs. The people on arachnoboards seem to think that the claw might heal with the next molt. It's exoskeleton is not hard yet, so I can't feed it. Also I'm going to long island in a couple days and I will be staying there for two days.
More bad news, my stone centipede died last night. RIP
The only good news is that I'm going to get either a vinegaroon (whip scorpion) or some Tailless Whip Scorpions soon.
I will keep you updated, thanks for the help. Here is the link to the arachnoboards thread. (In case I forgot to post something here)

I will feed it tomorrow then. I don't even know why the centipede died. He was fine in the morning, then he was dead when I checked on him later.

Well, I'm back from long island. I tried to feed it, but it did not eat. I will try again tomorrow. I took it out of the ICU and put it back in it's enclosure. I will keep you informed.

It's hard to say. It's alive and active, but it's not eating. I can't post pics because my camera is acting weird. I would take the picture and the picture would be very dark. I just hope that it will eat soon. On the bright side, I'm going to get some Tailless Whip Scorpions (The things you think are creepy) in a few days.
