bad idea?

I was thinking about getting a bigger tank, a 40 gallon breeder tank to be specific. The dimensions are 36x18x16, and it would be sitting on my dresser, which is about 16 inches deep. So would the tank hanging off in the back by two inches be too much and be a tipping hazard?

I wouldn't worry too much. You could also minimize it by just trimming off an inch off both sides.

No, instead of having two inches hanging off, you could center the tank and have just an inch hanging off both ends.

I don't really think I should be, but I also don't wanna buy all the new stuff and set it all up just to find out its gonna fall over on me haha

I hear ya'. I have a 150 gallon I'm about to move on top of these super sturdy pallets but I'm still worried the Pallets will cave. I had a cousin of mine who is huge jump up and down on it. Didn't make a sound and he said it felt fine but I'm still on the fritz about it.

Id follow bedlam and you could also load the part that is being carried heavily with dirt. Overhanging part with little to no dirt.

also, if you are worried, you could always pack some rocks and other heavy decor into the back, pushing the weight back so the tiny chance it would tip, gets smaller still

2 inches hanging off the back will be fine. unless you are hanging 6 inches off the back and having sumo wrestling contests in your room, you will be fine.

oh and your dresser is likely against a wall? don't worry about it. there are much more important things to worry about.
