| Hey guys, i am new here as you can tell. I am thinking about getting a scorpion, but i'd prefer it not to be a "pet hole" or something that burrow all day and only comes out to grab food then take it back in. I was referring to emperor scorps there. And i'm not the type to go and grab it whenever i want to see it. So my question is, what are some active scorpions. I have googled this all day long, but the only thing that comes up are care sheets. I have heard the desert hairy scorpions are active but i was wondering about any others? Thanks p.s. is this in the right area? | |

| Scorpion behavior differs scorpion to scorpion and it's not species specific. As far as all the scorpions that I've kept and I've had a lot, to me the most active are:
Hottentotta hottentotta Centruroides margaritatus Centruroides sculpturatus Leiurus quinquestriatus
I've kept others but those are off the top of my head. My Parabuthus have always hid, as well as Androctonus. I've had Babycurus as well but they always hid, and the only time I seen them was when I checked after feeding day.
Believe it or not my emperor that I had was always out and about. Out of that list your best bet is to go for Hottentotta hottentotta or Centruroides sculpturatus because Lqq are very hot so I wouldn't recommend to somebody new, and c. margs are virtually impossible to get as I along with two other people are the only people that have this species and we're all in the us and not selling them until we get them established for ourselves first.
I would go for the H.h because they're more tolerant and not so quick to sting like Centruroides are in my experience. Another good starter and active one that I've had luck with is Centruroides gracilis.

| thanks for all of your responses everyone. i'll definitely consider all of them when looking. however, i feel Hottentotta hottentotta is too venomous for me. i am bound to one day feel like handling them, and that will be the day the scorp stings me. but never mind.
in all honesty though, me and my family LOVE the way the forest scorpions look (including emperor). their powerful pedipalps and glossy finish. however, these are also pet holes. how active are they at night or do they sit in their burrow 24/7?
so far though, the Euscorpius flavicaudis looks best.
oh and bex, i live in England

My Heterometrus madraspatensis are pretty active for forest scorpions, out every night and eat well compared to Pandinus.

| haha thanks everyone!!! the Heterometrus madraspatensis seems like a good one then with good activity. the problem being they are RARE! i take it they have similar care to other forest scorpions which is good. i also assume they are similar to the other Heterometrus in terms of sting and hardiness?
thanks for all your help guys! appreciate it.
oh and bex, i feel that the E.flavs are too small for me. i would like a large scorpion i can hold easily. thanks though

| Yeah similar care as most forest scorpions and you probably won't want to handle the madras, they can be pretty feisty but that's your choice | |

| ok thanks jamie. i guess its better if they are feisty, that way feeding time is more entertaining.
oh and bex, they look cute. but i still feel that they dont make display scorpions as well as a large scorpion. and no offense, but your hands look really masculine

| haha you're welcome i guess. and sorry for being so fickle but i just saw the Heterometrus spinifer. they have a lovely colouration and there are lots of information about them? are they more active than the emperor or is it personality related again? sorry for being so indecisive guys, but thanks for your time | |
