| Hello everyone. I am a new owner, and would just like to possibly get any feed back on my terrarium. I am using a small heating pad on one side of the tank, on the vertical wall as not to bake the substrate. I am using sphagnum peat moss soil, chemical free. I also have some green moss, and two live plants. I fixed a burrow for him, on the glass where I can watch him, I tape two pieces of cardboard so the light doesn't bother him when I'm not staring him down. lol He has also taken on a deep forest green color as well since I bought him. He started as a jet black. I've had him about 3 weeks now and seems extremely content. I was using coconut fibers at first but was having humidity problems. Since I switched to the peat moss its been pretty spot on. Here is my old setup: And my current setup: (I stacked the rocks like this so I can get to him without having a dirt cave in, when ever I need to change the soil. Don't worry they are very secure. I used the moss to help pack them in. I also keep thick cardboard over that corner so he gets his darkness.) Sorry for the blurry/crappy pics. I don't have the greatest cam. Anyway all comments and advice are welcome Thanks! Also here are some pictures of my little Tank!. (in the old setup.) (Coolest thing ever. When he gets his food, he likes to do these. . . victory marches around the tank.) | |

| I would suggest making the substrate deeper, and I agree with Bex on the orchid -- they need very good drainage and I'm not sure if the water will properly drain from the plant when you water it. I'd also be concerned about any orchid fertilizer harming the scorpion. | |

| I replaced the soil that came with the orchid because I had the same concern since it was a potted plant. I rinsed the roots well and replanted in a smaller container with some small pebbles surrounding the orchid in the soil. Which I am hoping will address the dryer soil conditions the orchid needs. So far it's been about 3 days since I set it up and it's doing fine thus far. Fingers crossed. lol As far as the substrate how much more would you suggest I add? And thank you both for your replies | |

| Hey, welcome to the forum and cool setup Here's to hoping those plants survive! Either way, your emp seems healthy and looks to be settling down well in it. | |

| +1 on mordax comment. It's a really nice setup but needs a little more substrate. 3-6 inches is usually what works best for emperors. | |
