PostSubject: Would these tube bulbs be considered Infrared?   Would these tube bulbs be considered Infrared? Empty4/4/2011, 4:13 pm

I have been looking all over for 25W or smaller tube infrared bulbs to fit my exo terra canopy as it just sits collecting dust in my closet and I feel that a 50/75W IR bulb/lamp is a bit overkill for my 12x12x12 5gal exo terra enclosure.

The canopy I have maxes out at 25W, I also have a dual canopy that maxes out at 40W I think (non exo terra), which I wouldn't mind sticking 2 25W IR and putting them inbetween both my exo terra enclosures.

I found this while snooping around google:

http://www.buy.com/prod/topdawg-pet-supply-25-watt-nightlight-red-inc-reptile-bulb/q/sellerid/20324102/loc/67447/211498958.html

That the same as IR?

I noticed that Exo terra doesnt sell anything small then a 50W infrared bulb, but they do sell 25w day, sun, and night-glos that fit the canopy I have :/

That should be fine as it does say In Description below that Zoo Med Nightlight Red Reptile bulb is made of true red glass (not painted or coated) the ones to avoid are the painted glass I believe, I always make sure infrared is written on it somewhere though just to be sure, you coul contact te seller to be 100% Smile

Yeah I was looking at one of those at a store recently, and I dont think it said anywhere it was a IR, just that it was non-painted/coated? CONFUSING

Same goes with those night-glo tube bulbs from exo terra that we always debate about whether or not they contain UV or not and the exo terra site even has a chart showing that their IR and night-glos do not contain any UV lol

If think the beat thing to do is contact the people that actually make them, I don't know who else you can be completely sure, we have had to use a painted one as an emergency measure before and you. Can really tell the difference they let through so much more light the almost look orange when on rather than red as they should

Didn't someone do the same and contacted exo-terra about their night-glo and they said that it didnt have any uv and yet people still thought it had uv? lol

I guess I can contact a zoo-med dealer, but I am hoping they dont read the label and tell me the obvious cause I can read a label too and its not entirely clear lol
