| Hi All, I'm Kweegwin, AKA Kevin. I'll introduce myself soon, but as for now i have a few questions. About a month ago I bought my first Emperor Scorpion. I know it is a male by sexing. Yesterday on my way home from the doctor, I decided he needed a friend, so I bought another. A hot younger female Emp, I'm fairly certain its a female anyway. Mainly because as soon as I put her in, my first Emp started doing a little Jig. Every time he came near her, he would shake a bit, then move, then shake, then move closer. Any ways, I'll need to post a picture of this second scorpion. The Pet Store owner assured me she is just gravid, I'm thinking the same. One shingle, or what ever those tiles are called on their back, has a space where her white unprotected skin is protruding through her shell, and she is pretty fat. What do you guys think? Also: After a few hours of watching them, I left for about 3.5 hours, came back, and looked under one of the caves to make sure they were still both alive. But no one was home! So I found them bunking in the other cave together!? My smaller original Emp was lying on top of his new friend. Is this normal or should I be concerned? Posting Pictures Soon!! | |

| Hi welcome to the forum, you will need to post pics to get an answer really, and if she is gravid they will need to be separated otherwise she is likely to kill the male. If it is just Bulge between two sections it is more likely to be a blockage, gravid scorps get huge with all the segments separating and you will normally see the heart like running down the middle of the back, here's a pic of a gravid scorp | |

| I would say she's deffo not gravid, in my opinion thats either a blockage or injury I'm afraid, Some blockages clear but I think some can be fatal, I'm not suprised the pet store person didn't know what the hell they are talking about as I am yet to find a pet store that does concerning scorpions, online sellers are a bit more knowledgable but still mainly know about spiders and other insects like mantids and millipedes. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than myself will be along to give there opinion soon I'm glad the tank mates are getting along ok! | |

| Thanks bex, The lump has gone down slightly since I have moved her in. And she is beginning to become more responsive. I'm hoping this continues, and she heals up nicely. | |

| Not gravid, might be newly gravid, but not nearly enough to confirm.
You get that look when the scorpion is put in the wrong environment, like putting it on wood chips with little water. I have the urge to bet at the pet store they had her on wood chips right?
Looks just like a healthy female other than the de-hydrated part.

| nah the pet store had her on co-co fiber, it was fairly moist, not as moist as it should have been though.
I'm assuming the previous owner neglected it then.

| Update: Ok, so it's been 4 days. Justice (finally named my female scorpion) is getting fatter. Only thing is, she hasn't eaten since I brought her home. The scales/tiles/shingles (some one please correct me) are starting to stretch apart across her entire abdomen revealing the soft white skin below, similar to the picture Bex posted above, although she isn't as round as that.. Any ideas on what this could mean would be greatly appreciated | |
