How to List Your Inverts!

Maybe that's why I can see it, no internet exploder for me, sometimes I can't see it on the phone. When I'm not on the phone I cam change mine if you want. Not how there is a difference with horizontal vs vertical though, I'll look at it, is it the way it renders or is it 5 lines when you are creating your Sig?

Mr Mordax, can you verify if my Sig is currently over the limit? I'm not at my computer now but as a web developer by profession I am thinking that if the rule is 5 lines all formats should be allowed but just not a viable option to use due to a large list and amount of code needed. I had spent a little time changing the frmat of my code to not get the 'your Sig is too long' message at the time of creating it. I'm curious what the technical limits are. And if you looked at mine, or looked at just one horizontal marque. If you went by the code I posted in that recent post as it is not the format I used it is only formatted for readability.
Please don't take offense by this post, in the words of south park I respect your authority, I'm just trying to understand the technical requirements of the Sig for the forum so I might be able to personally use and be able to offer to everyone an excepted option

iitomodachi1, the limits specified in our rules are five lines of text, banners no larger than 500x75, and no obscenely annoying animations. If you're doing a sideways marquee, then five lines is acceptable. A vertical marquee could be as long as you like it since only about five lines show up at any given time.

Whatever code H. Laoticus is using for his vertical marquee is working fine for me, but for some reason the sideways isn't -- which, after what laoticus pointed out, suggests that it's a problem on my machine.

So, if your signature appears to be five lines of text or less on your end, then it's OK.

Awesome, thanks for the clarification Mr. Mordax, then I should be ok with my sig until my collection grows by one more beastie of any kind :/ And scrolling Vertically is good due to the reasons you mentioned making it because of the way it is rendered and being perfect for large collections.
Very small collections of maybe 3 or less would be ok for a drop down but that defeats the purpose for drop down controls as they are intended for big lists but take a lot of code to generate the control. Ok, I got it now

As for certain things not working for you, it depends on the browser you are using and the code being used. This is a little different on the forums as I don't understand some of the forum specific tags but when I can add in html I can explain a little and do a lot with it. HTML especially some of the depricated and 'deemed unprofessional stuff' renders on certain machines. IE is Microsoft so they get picky on what is accepted and not, not to mention that each version of IE is completely rewritten (IMHO, because the last version sucked), Firefox will probably support the most as it is very popular and not written with the influence of controlling the world like MS or more so, Apple. So in just some things will render on some browsers and not on others. Marque tags are old and not commonly used anymore due to the unprofessional image they reflect so you will probably see that. Try Firefox to view it and see what happens? Maybe Google Chrome would work too.

H. Laoticus, since your sig renders fine for Mr. Mordax, would you mind sharing a code sample of what you did? I'm curious if it is still the Marque tag with the added property as I mentioned before as that is how I know how to do it without looking into alternatives. If it is the marque tag I'm curious as to why that would render but not my sig for example.

I'm actually using Firefox and not seeing the horizontal marquee . . . it works fine for me in IE. I'm wondering if one of my addons has disabled it, since H. laoticus can see it in Firefox. I also have a friend who works for Mozilla; maybe he can suggest something.

Edit: also meant to say that HTML has never worked for me, on this machine or my old laptop (both using Firefox). Still nothing with all addons disabled.

Huh, that's crazy, it works for me in firefox but is hit or miss on my phone. It may be an add on or something. That is a really strange behavior indeed. Maybe ask your buddy if different versions of Mozilla act differently, that is if you don't have the latest version.

Square brackets is BBCode, <> is HTML; HTML never works with embedded pictures for me either (on this forum) -- only BBCode seems to work.

A test run with all addons disabled gave similar results, and I'm running the latest version. Weird.

to work either. BB Code seems to offer a lot of the same things HTML does just with very watered down from the quick glance I took. Probably a security thing though. It is hard to shut html down entirely on a forum as everyone wants to tweak messages and stuff but realistically anytime anyone can enter html in any manner of input it lends itself to all sorts of security vulnerabilities. I can't say I'd blame anyone if I couldn't enter html at all. But it sure is fun to tweak messages


Also, for those that want scrolling 'marque' style sigs, just try what H. Laoticus did but with the word scroll instead of updown

For others checking this it is Profile >> Preferences and about 2/3's to the bottom.

That being said, thanks but I just checked and it is, I wanted to make sure of that before posting a reply because I was sure I could already use html but img tags didn't work. It is quirky or something but bbcode works fine that way. I also swore I set html to on when I started my account.

Should be the same if you use scroll or updown using BB Code rather than the marque html tag

Hey Mr. M. as an Admin can you tell me if this is a true statement.. Will certain BBCode not render/work unless you set it up on the forum to do so? Or did I stumble across something that would be some sort of add on? I'll post the link below, but I do not know if this is a trusted source or not just in case you felt like trying something, I'm just curious if this was a plug in sort of thing or the norm.

i was wondering if the option for the [ tabs] BBcode was about the same kind of thing iitomodachi1...
because i think it could com in very useful for the admin.
