| Bulbs shouldnt be burning that much, I use 2 45 watt bulbs and lamps and they average about 4-5 months minimum, had one last 9 months. probably what is happening is you're using a low watt bulb in a higher watt lamp. | |

| One reason I stopped using bulbs was because they always burned out ,plus they are a fire hazard. I heated the entire room even though it is where I sleep. (If you have not figured out yet I no longer have a collection but I plan to get a few soon.I once had over a hundred scorpions and 20plus tarantulas). This is why I started posting after an absence. | |

| It could be that the lamp isn't designed for such heat emitted from the bulb or the bulb is higher in wattage than the lamp can handle. | |

Is the light inside the enclosue? It needs to be on top(outside) of the enclosure .

| Hey Bex, what kind of lamp do you have? The brand and maximum wattage it can hold would be great and the wattage of your bulb as well. Also, what brand is the bulb?

| ok so you can see the line down her back, from the pics the telson is a deep enough red where she potentially could be adult..... all you have to do is wait.. they can take a long time to pop out the scorplings... if she starts acting weird in any sort of way then i think shes gonna pop. my female would sit in the middle of her tank out in the open with her legs spread right out and her tail curled in what seemed to be the most uncomfortable position. she did this for 2 days, then i didnt see her for 3 more days and when i finally seen her she had 18 scorplings attached for the piggy back-ride. | |

+1 just a thought? how come so much stock is put in lights, i can keep my tanks at a constant 75 degrees (Fahrenheit) all day and night...without lights...i even disconnected my overhead bedroom light and thats 2 emperor tanks i do this with... not to mention since the pre winter temperature drops where i live in florida make it cold outside, i keep my heater set at 80 im not trying to sound, hostile (lol cant think of a better word) but how is it, that every convo about whatever scorpion always leads to lights? just a random thought...

| iitomodachi1 you are correct we had a pretty long thread about the whole light/matt where to put light thing lol Right i have .....Euro Rep Ceramic Heat Bulb Holder with an exo terra infrared heat bulb which is 75 watts And my house is very very cold even in summer (ha thats a joke we dont get summer in the UK lol lasts all of a week) and heat matts were not doing anything at all we tried a few brands so thats why we use heat lamps...unfortunatly cant afford to keep the heating on all day/night costs a fortune! And to update with the female emp i caught her out the other morning and she looked kinda deflated lol so dunno whats with her | |

Hey Bro, don't mean to be a smart 4$$, we'll ok, I do but don't take it personally... Why don't you come up and hang out up by me for a week this coming January? I'll let you crash on my couch you can check out my collection and a nice WI winter You will instantly feel great about living in Florida and will also understand why we need lights and other heat sources. In fact the lights are not only for the scorps but for the rest of the apartment too! My place has been at 75 for the past few weeks and have the thermostat set to kick on the heat at 63 Woot!

It's only november and with a heating pad on each terrarium and the roomheater (dont know what it's called in english) going on full burst I can barrely keep the temperature in the enclosures! I also live in a house that's from 1890 so ofcorse it got something to do with that, but still... some of us pretty much only see the sun when we go on vacation to, say... florida so thats might be why we some likes the light over the enclosure for extra heat! |

| I need two bulbs to keep temps, like rene I live in a wasteland in the middle of canada so I'm thinking we live at about the same temps. I literally need bulbs to keep my critters from slowing right down. | |
