I think I have a gravid...

LQ! It's either premolt or gravid, I'm hoping for the later. She's ~4" and fat. What do you guys think?

the glare makes it hard to tell but I'd say gravid or fatty.

Well between my 3 communals they've only eaten 3 of the 7 crickets I dropped in 4 days ago. Any way to tell if it's just not mature yet?

not really unless you know the instar. They vary in size so it might or might not be. But it doesnt look like a molt to me.

I just found a spermatophore! It was covered in sand so I'm not positive but it's a good sign.

well thats good that means they all might be mature.

Can you get a shot from the top? A lot of gravid scorps will show the central nerve cord, and for premolts, it's the best way to see new tergites developing.

Most premoult tend to be long not round.

hmm Eddy might depend on the sp abit, because i had a blimp of a spinifer, he was ballon round, he feet allmost chouldnt touch the ground fat.. he just molted a couple of days ago.. now he is mature and ready for scorpion loving..

exactly. It was BLIMP-like rather than just round in the belly like that one.

I don't think it's ready to molt, I can't see new tergites. I see a couple little white round things through the membrane. Scorpion embryos are white right? Should I separate the mothers? (I think I have two) I know this species is communal though I'm not sure how that extends to when the have babies.

With most species it's a good idea to remove gravid females.

yeah the gravid female must be removed because they can get VERY territorial.

My H.Paucidens went from being easily handled to being a nightmare to go near when she was gravid. but i couldn't see the white young through her body but she was VERY fat and elongated i.e. there was a gap between each back plate and you could see the skin between each plate. And had a good apatite until 2 weeks before she dropped.

In my experience of breeding if your specimen gets fat and elongated then there is a really good chance of pregnancy.

In all fairness the picture is that blurred from light it is difficult to make out if she is gravid or not. Is there anyway you could get a better picture???

Who in turn has put me in contact with other scorpiologists in order to get info, and who are always more than happy to help. Especially if you have a rare or difficult to breed scorp. any information you can give back to them is always greatly received.

Been out of it scorp keeping for a while but its slowly coming back to me!

i love H.Paucidens nice looking scorp id love to get more but not much space at the moment, the reptiles are taking up too much room hopefully when i buy my 3 bedroom house i can have a room dedicated to them, that is when i shall be getting my D.W.A licence
and with that i shall be getting Leiurus Quinquestriatus, i know of a local pet shop that has them so im all set lol
