Rene is right. 7i is adult and 8i itself is already rare.. So far i haven heard of any who can reach 9i yet.
If your friend's P.Trans can do it. I think most of us would love to see a picture of it with a comparison item (e.g. measuring tape / lighter) beside it Very Happy

Wait a minute... LAST molt is the adult molt! So either 7th instar is the last and adult molt or 8th molt is! Can't be adult at 7th instar and have another molt to 8th instar Wink

I'm not sure weather or not 7th or 8th molt is adult, but I know that adult is the FINAL molt! I think most scorpions reach 7th instar and a few species can reach 8th instar, but 9th molt is out of the question for any scorpion as far as I know!

From what i understand from a friend who has several successful broods of P.Trans before:
7i are adults and ready for mating. 8i P.Trans are rare and uncommon but i would definitely love to get my hands on one.. just imagine the sheer size of it.. lolz

I know for a fact that scorpions has the last and final molt when they mature to adult! So your friend is wrong sorry, but I don't know weather it's 7th or 8th instar though!

Great pics GS! Can't wait until mine gets big enough that you can actually see it Rolling Eyes lol!

Maybe you are right Rene. If 8i does exist, then that could really be the final molt.
However, I do believe that 7i is able to mate and breed.
Now the thing is.. we should really see a case study of an 8i P.Trans's full life-cycle! Very Happy

Your 2i P.Trans look really well developed thou Smile i'm guessing you'll be getting some more P.Trans soon?
As for me.. i can never get enough of them!

Yes it could be, but the fact of the matter is that final molt equals adulthood and the ability to breed and not before! Could be fun to hear other opinions on this matter?

Thanks Very Happy Yes, I have really fallen in love with the whole Parabuthus family so I'm betting on it! Right now I'm just pulling strings to get some Transvaalicus home, but I'm also in the market for liosoma and mossambicensis, but they are just FREAKING expensive! Found one who could sell me 0.0.8 2nd-3rd instar for 120$ though, but the shipping is 58,50$ from somewhere in the pacific, so it's gonna be a bit expensive aswell!

I can't wait to get home and see the pictures and new vids, can't see them at work Sad

Just to throw a wrench in the system here, I think for a lot of species the females may have 1 extra molt and that is partly why they are larger than males in most cases. So if we are saying that males are mature at 8i then females just my have one extra molt.

I'm not sure though and hope when whoever finds out what the case really is that they post up their findings Very Happy

Yes, that is also true come to think of it! Some species females have an extra molt to adulthood, but it doesn't change that the last molt is the molt to adulthood!

I'll probably end up tossing them as I keep forgetting to put them in freezer, if they haven't decomposed any by the weekend, I may try pinning them and coating them in hairspray. I don't think they are big enough for the innards to start to smell. I guess I'd like to, they are still pretty cool looking Very Happy

I thought I'd post my P. trasvaalicus question here instead of creating a new post.

I have several 3rd instar P. trasvaalicus and I'd like to know when they are close to molting how they will behave. Do they just slow down and hide till the molt? Mine are really fat but they still come out at night and run around.

The next molt is the one I'm waiting for. Does this next molt make them look like the adults?

They'll get fat and typically (but not always) refuse prey. Sometimes you can see new tergites forming in the gaps between the old ones.
