Surprise Scorplings Empty
PostSubject: Surprise Scorplings   Surprise Scorplings Empty9/15/2010, 10:27 am

So it turns out that my male emp is either a freak of nature or not a male at all. I looked into the tank today to see a little white blob on hi....her back. She didn't really even look gravid, and I fed her about 2 crickets every 10 days. I'm pretty excited as well as a little nervous. I've looked at some previous scorpling topics but seeing as my new pet's lives' are at stake, I just wanted to be sure of some things.

1. Cover up the tank, forget you have a scorp for a week.

2. After said week, collect remaining scorplings and place them in either separate or communal environments. Feed them and Mom. What is the best way to collect them?

3. Feed them small dead crickets or a large dead cricket. When they start turning brown (2I? 3i?) try feeding small live crickets.

Anyone want some baby emps? I don't have the space to care for these all the way to adulthood.

Aw congrats!!! shame your not in the uk i would of deffinatly had some!

um i not 100% sure about what you do with thembut from what ive read on here...def leave her alone coz if she gets stressed she will eat them.... i think they stay on for 1-2 weeks maybe more until they start to come down off mum then you will need to seperate if you want to make sure no canabalism occurs on mums part....feed them small pin head crickets maybe injure the crickets slighty so easier to catch...... but wait for someone more experience to comment as im still a noob

When they crawl off of her back, that's the time to collect them (if you want). Some people leave the scorpions with mom or separate mom and leave the scorpions together. You can just separate all of them all together. They can start being fed when they molt and come off her back. Try gently brushing them into a cup during moving.

Thanks, she ate one, so it looks like the final count will be 5, unless she's got more in her. I'm kinda pissed she decided to eat one but it happens i've read. Was she hungry or what drove her to eat it? Should I feed her while the babies are still on her back to fill her up?

sometimes the mothers go mad and eat all the scorps or they only the ones with diformities. Sounds to me like you should separate the mother from the little ones. The obviosly do what you want with the others keep the communualy or separate them

Don't do anything.

Placing a food item in there will only stress her further.

Leave the scorps with her for a week or two until they molt and their new exos harden, then you can feed them.

And yes, the mothers will eat any that they feel won't survive on its own.
