Vaejovis carolinianus Empty
PostSubject: Vaejovis carolinianus   Vaejovis carolinianus Empty1/6/2010, 9:23 pm

ive 2 WC V. carolinianus and i beleive they may be male/female. they are too small for my camera to get a good pic of the pectines to show so i will describe as best i can why i think ive one of each and hopefully someone can give me an idea if im right or not. the first scorp(#1) is about 1-1.5 inches in length, the other(#2) is about 1 inch. now the smaller of the 2 (#2)has larger pectines in proportion to body size and also looks to have larger pectines physically than the first scorp(#1). i beleive scorp #1 to be female and scorp #2 to be male. ive had both about a month now and scorp #2 has not eaten since i got him and scorp #1 has been eating everything i offer from full grown head crushed crix to wax worms to .25 in crix( about 7 meals in the last month). currently i have them in a mini kritter keeper as ive heard they can be comunal plus i want to see if i can mate them if they are of different sexes.

Vaejovis can be sexed by male pectines looking like /\ while females look like / \. So if you can look at them side-by-side, it should be fairly obvious if you have a pair.

If your "female" is stuffing itself like that, I'd wager a guess that it may be gravid. This, combined with the fact they're Vaejovis, would make me want to suggest not keeping them together. I've heard mixed reports of keeping this genus communally and my own attempts have ended in cannibalism.
