| So my pede died the other day -- unfortunately ... I had rearranged my bug cabinet altogether and I didn't think that it'd get that hot up on the top shelf -- but it did. I feel so stupid for not checking it but I've been busy lately. I have him preserved in alcohol atm. Is there a way I could preserve it outside of the rubbing alcohol? Maybe some sort of resin or spray? | |

| I dont know anything about preserving in resin etc but u could maybe try gutting it and stuffing it with wee bits of cotton wool them pinning and drying it, ive never tried this with anything myself so dont know if it would work for a centipede but i know people do it with mantids and phasmids | |

| Thanks for the link. It's really helpful! Do you think that I could get the pins/cotton at a craft store? Also, I'm not sure of how I would gut the pede. I guess nobody here would know | |

| u probably could get the pins etc from a craft store, as for gutting the pede, use a scalpel or a really really sharp knife and gut the membrane between tthe segments then use tweezers to pull all the gumph out, thats all i can suggest. | |

| I wouldn't cut the membrane between the segments; I'd make one long incision from front to back all along the center of the underside.
Just a heads up, the guts may want to stick to the inside pretty well, so you'll probably have to tug with tweezers while freeing them with the scalpel, or you might end up with an inside-out 'pede.
And from word of experience, I can say that a brand new blade will work a heck of a lot better. | |

| the problem with cutting up the whole length of the membrane is that ull end up with a big hole that u cant close and the stuffing might bulge out, but i suppose if u do it really well that might not happen, i dunno, like i said before ive never tried doing this, never got round to it. | |

| You can use sutures to close it up. | |
