Hi all! I've recently bought a scorpion and am wondering if its ok to keep him in a well lit room. Does light aggravate scorpions? Just wana make sure so I can put him somewhere darker like my basement if that's the case heh.

No lighting is needed for the cage itself. If you use an incandescent light bulb as a heat source for scorpion cages, make sure it is colored blue or red. These wavelengths cannot be seen by scorpions, and they will act as if it were dark. This is also useful if you want to observe your scorpion during its nocturnal activities.

Scorpions don't like bright lights, however, as PaperTiger said, they cannot see red light.
I keep my emps in by bedroom and during the day they get a reasonable amount of sunlight from the curtains being open during the day. But they just go down their burrow, so they don't mind.

Edit: I don't use bulbs of any sort because i prefer heat mats. But that's just my personal preference.

Just give it something to hide under and it won't matter.

^^ agreed.
i've read that day-night cycles are good for scorps, then they know when to hide, and when to emerge...
they must get a bit confused when i come home and flip on the light, but as they can hide, they are ok...
